Patriarchate Of Alexandria
The title of Patriarch of Alexandria is traditionally worn by the bishop of Alexandria (in Egypt ). The Church of Alexandria is one of the oldest in Christendom.
Today, three counts of church , one Catholic , holds the title of Patriarch of Alexandria.
The patriarchs of Alexandria currently in use are:
- His Holiness Shenouda III , Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Preaching and throughout Africa. He is the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church and lives in Alexandria.
- His Beatitude Theodoros II , Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa. He is the head of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria and lives in Alexandria.
- His Beatitude Antonios Naguib , Patriarch and Pope of Alexandria and All Africa Copts. He is the head of the Coptic Catholic Church and lives in Cairo.
In addition, the primate of the Greek Catholic Melkite Church , residing at Damascus in Syria , bears the title of Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Alexandria and Jerusalem Melkites.
Finally, until 1964 , when its withdrawal, it has also existed a Latin Patriarch of Alexandria, established in 1341 at the time of the Crusades.
