Patriarchal Blessing

Blessing given by the laying on of hands to worthy members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by men holding the Melchizedek priesthood and ordained patriarchs. According to Mormon theology , the patriarchal blessing says:

  • the lineage of the person in the House of Israel
  • recommendations and promises of God for the person who receives it.

For a single person, a patriarchal blessing is given only once. The words of the patriarchal blessings are transcribed in two copies, one for the person who receives it, one for archiving by the Church. Under the doctrine, the patriarchal blessing of eternal value.

The father can give a special blessing from the patriarch of his family, but it is neither recorded nor retained by the Church.
