Jesus had promised the coming of the Paraclete, or Comforter, after his own departure, "Jn 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and He shall give you another Paraclete to be with you forever: the Spirit Truth, "which descended on them by a few days. According to Emile Osty the word Paraclete refers to the one called for help, "counsel, advise, advocate, intercessor, consoler." John in this passage speaks of "another Paraclete, the first being Jesus." The First Epistle of John uses the Greek word Paraclete in a sense close to intercessor: And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 1 . The Paraclete is the Holy Spirit , Third Person of the Trinity , the event is recounted in the Acts of the Apostles : "Some languages, like tongues of fire appeared to them, separated from each other, and it sat upon each of them ". Thus, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church : "Jesus, when he proclaims and promises the coming of the Holy Spirit, calls him the" Paraclete, "literally" one who is called to "ad-vocatus (Jn 14, 16. 26, 15, 26, 16, 7). "Paraclete" is usually translated as "Comforter" Jesus is the first comforter (cf. 1 Jn 2, 1). The Lord himself called the Spirit Saint "the Spirit of truth" (Jn 16, 13).
