The Palestinian Legislative Council is the parliament of the Palestinian territories administered by the Palestinian Authority , and the embryo of the legislature of a future independent Palestinian state. It comprises 132 members, elected from 16 electoral districts in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Its headquarters is located in Rimal in Gaza. Like the Knesset Israel, the Palestinian Legislative Council is unicameral.
It was during the negotiations of the Oslo accords that Israel and the PLO agreed on the establishment of such a meeting. The first Palestinian legislative elections were held in 1996. Since the reform the number of seats and voting voted by the Council in June 2005, its number of seats rose from 88 to 132, while half is now provided on a proportional , the other remaining distributed according to the method of majoritarian used since 1996.

Board Responsibilities
According to the Interim Agreement on the West Bank and Gaza Strip , the elected council and its executive arm (the Palestinian National Authority , whose members are appointed) have jurisdiction in civil cases (1) and are responsible for internal security and public order in the Palestinian autonomous areas. All acts of the PLC can still be modified by the Israelis.
Speaker of the Legislative Council can obtain the functions of the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority if it is no longer able to fulfill them.

The first CLP began work March 7, 1996. This day is called "Democracy Day" with the Palestinians.
Legislative Council in 1996
The first PLC was elected January 20, 1996 and consists of 88 seats including:
- Fatah : 49 (4) (5)
- Affiliated Independent Fatah: 15
- Independent (Islamist): 4 (6)
- Independent: 17
- Other: 3 (7)
In this council, there are 5 women, 3 and 2 Independent Fatah. Six seats are reserved for Christians and one for the Samaritans are a small people related to Judaism. The six Christian seats were occupied by Fatah and 3 independent candidates elected the Samaritan is an independent affiliate Fatah.
Speaker of the Legislative Council is: Rawhi Fattuh. He served as President of the Palestinian Authority after the death of Yasser Arafat.
Legislative Council in 2006
A second ballot was held on 25 January 2006 to elect the new Palestinian Legislative Council. According to official results of parliamentary election, the Hamas wins a majority on the Palestinian parliament.
Speaker of the Legislative Council is Abdel Aziz Duwaik since 18 February 2006. Following the arrest of Abdel Aziz Duwaik by the Israeli army is Ahmed Bahar chairing ai.
