Origen
Origen (in ancient Greek / is a theologian of the patristic period, born in Alexandria c. 185 and died in Tyre v. 253 Biography He was born into a Christian family in Egypt around AD 185. In 202 , during the reign of Septimius Severus , Church of Alexandria is persecuted and his father Leonidas died martyred Inheritance He taught a doctrine mystique which approximated that of the Gnostics Quarrel Origenist After his death he continues to be controversial. Some points of his doctrine are doomed to the Council of Constantinople II ( 553 ), in particular, was accused of having supported the belief in reincarnation and the pre-existence of the soul before birth. These points are more attributed to Origen that truly doctrines asserted by him. A dossier compiled by Pamphylia and Eusebius of Caesarea in the fourth century entitled Apology for Origen discusses the controversy. But the dispute over Origen had led from the year 400 by a national council convened by the bishop of Alexandria, Theophilus of Alexandria , the condemnation of Origenism . Theodore of Alexandria wrote to Pope Anthanase order to convey the difficulties of Origen, which will contribute to the condemnation of the doctrine of Origen . . The controversy over Origen led to a questioning of the theological affirmations of Origen. The first interpretation of Origen who posed problem is one of the pre-existence of the soul and God created spiritual beings, but some of them have rejected God, depending on the severity and rapidity of that refusal would lead to the creation of angels, demons or men . The material world had been created to give men the opportunity to redeem themselves . The second thing is the theory of apocatastasis, Origen believed that nature will return to its original state. Thus sinners like the demons will gradually be purified to return to the original state is good . Moreover, Origen himself in his Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew, Book X, ch. 20 describes the reincarnation of error (pseudodoxia metensmatses tes)). His only truly speculative book, De principiis has the character of open research in an era when no doctrine has been set by an ecumenical council. Origen is a thinker moving, curious, prolific and never a doctrinaire obtuse. However, despite these controversies, many Fathers of the Church guided by the writings of Origen by selecting some parts, like the Philokalia of Gregory of Nazianzus and Basil of Caesarea , or Jerome Stridon which guided Origen, and Didymus the Blind who declared disciple of Origen . Thus, in his commentary on the Gospel according to John, commenting on the first chapter in which it is said that Jesus baptized at a location along the Jordan River called "Bethany," says Origen browse the entire valley of the river found no place so called. It is a place called Btharaba. Applying the methods etymological of the time, it determines that Hebrew Bethany means "house of fulfillment" while Btharaba means "home preparation". He then corrects the Gospel text, saying that Jesus began his public life by baptism Btharaba as he goes to Bethany , near Jerusalem , to celebrate his last meal before the Passion. Erasmus did not write less in the rations Studii, written in London in March 1506 and sold in Paris in October 1511: "In terms of theology, after the Holy Scriptures, nothing better to read Origen - ex theologia, secundum divinas Litter, nemo melius Origen. " Origen is considered to have left a considerable body of work (in Greek ) The complete works of Origen have been published in Basel by Erasmus (1536), in Paris , De La Rue (1733-1759) in Wrzburg (1776-1794) in Berlin , by Lommatsch (1831-1846) , 24 v. in-8, and reprinted in the collection of the Abbe Migne (1860) Thought
