Son of Alfonso III , he was sent to him by Zaragoza to be raised by Banu Qasi. On the death of his father, he received the crown of Galicia. He was also crowned King of Len at the death of his brother Garca I. He settled in after Leon.
He continued the policy of territorial expansion on two fronts previous kingdoms. He thus arrived on the Western Front until Evora and Merida , sacking the two cities. The Muslim governor was thus forced to buy the withdrawal of these lands Leone. On the eastern front, he joins Sancho Garcs of Navarre against the emir of Cordoba Rahman III.
Muslims were diverted to San Esteban de Gormaz (917) causing the collapse of Arnedo and Calahorra in the hands of Banu Qasi the following year. The reaction was Rahman III in 920 to send an army recovered Osma and San Esteban de Gormaz, entering in Navarre and beating the Christians at the battle of Valdejunquera while capturing the bishops of Tuy and Salamanca.
Ordoo He attributed the defeat to the absence of the counts of Castile , called the battle but did not come. They reconvened at Tejares and murdered. He then launched an offensive against Christian-occupying La Rioja and Navarre incorporating the area Njera and Viguera.
