Psalm Nicolas, born 11 December 1518 in Chaumont-sur-Aire (then the duchy of Bar ) and died 10 August 1575 in Verdun ( Bishop of Verdun ), is a religious Premonstratensian became Earl-Bishop of Verdun and the Prince St. Roman Empire. This is one of the great bishops of the late sixteenth century.
Biography
Entered the abbey of Saint-Paul de Verdun, where his uncle was a priest, he studied theology in Paris in Sorbonne and met Ignatius of Loyola. In 1540, he became abbot of St. Paul and Bishop of Verdun in 1548. In this capacity he participated in the Council of Trent.
He creates in 1554 a seminar in Verdun, called Orphanotrophe, with 24 student places are reserved for orphans.
Nicolas Psalm was also with Cardinal Charles de Lorraine, one of the promoters of the University of Pont--Mousson.
