Nicephorus Iii Botaniates
Botaniates Nicephorus III, born 1001 and died in 1081 , is Emperor Byzantine of 7 January 1078 to April 1, 1081.
Strategist Anatolikon theme , he was proclaimed emperor by the army of the East 10 October 1077 in Nice , revolted against Michael VII. It reverses it with the help of Turkish Seljuk Sleyman I. , to whom he pays tribute , and wife Empress Maria of Alania , wife of Michael VII. With the aid of Alexius Comnenus , he dismisses his rivals, including General Nicephorus Bryennius , and succeeded in being accepted by the aristocracy and clergy.
His reign was a series of revolts and civil wars. The party of the civil bureaucracy had collapsed, the Senate was deprived of all authority.
With the support of Constantine Ducas , Alexius Comnenus seized power and relegated to the convent of Nicephorus Peribleptos.
