Nicanor (Deacon)

Nicanor was one of the first seven deacons of the Christian Church. A tradition is the martyr to Jerusalem in company with Stephen , while another says tortured in Cyprus in the first century.

It is celebrated locally, including the Church of Cyprus , on January 10 .

Acts of the Apostles - Chapter 6 - verses 3-5:

"But seek with you, brethren, seven men of good reputation .... The proposal pleased the whole assembly is chosen and Stephen ... Philippe , Prochorus , Nicanor, Timon , Parmenas and Nicolas ... .
