Lades and Usually Just Niandra to T-Shirt is the first solo album, John Frusciante , the former guitarist of Red Hot Chili Peppers , released in 1994. Frusciante released the album after receiving encouragement from his friends Johnny Depp , Flea , Perry Farrell and Gibby Haynes , lead singer of the group Jane's Addiction and Butthole Surfers who told him that there was more good music.
On the album, Frusciante sings, plays guitar, piano, you can also hear strange effects, obtained for example by changing the belt speed. Toni, a friend of 10 years of John, also sang the latest songs from the album. Most songs were written before John leaves the Red Hot in 1992 during the tour of Blood Sugar Sex Magik , much of the first songs were even recorded while the band recorded in 1991 BSSM, John reported that in part, only "Running Away Into You" was composed after his departure.
It's actually a double album, the first twelve tracks constituting part Niandra Lades (Niandra Lades is a female character played by John in a 1992 film of his girlfriend Toni Oswald time) while tracks 13-25 are Usually Just a T-shirt. There is also a recovery of authentic precursors and Bad Brains , a hardcore punk band, also cited as an influence by Flea. This recovery has also been mentioned as such in the credits of the first edition of the album, which indicated that all music was composed and produced by John Frusciante. This error has been corrected in the reissues that followed.
The album has long been very rare and hard to find since it was removed from record stores in 1998 following a request by the guitarist himself. Indeed, he came back into the Red Hot Chili Peppers and chose to withdraw the sale of the disc and its second album Smile From the Streets You Hold was released in 1997. However, the album came out in 1999.
The Jacket
You can see John Frusciante transvestite Rrose Selavy, in homage to Marcel Duchamp , whom he quotes often as an influence in his career. On the cover, you can also read "To Clara", the album is dedicated to the daughter of Flea , named Clara. At the time, he said that she was "the strongest person he ever met."
