The National Institute of Sport, expertise and performance, more commonly known INSEP, is a large establishment French. INSEP was established in 1975 (Act Mazeaud October 29) under the name of National Institute of Sport and Physical Education by the merger of the Normal School of Physical Education and Sport (ENSEP) and INS. The latter was founded in 1945 under the name of National Sports Institute, and its first director was Elias Mercier.
In 2009 , INSEP changes name and acquires the status of large establishment by Decree No. 2009-1454 of 25 November 2009.
INSEP is the inheritor of the "cole de Joinville," Normal School Gym, founded in 1852.
Part of INSEP (poolside) burned, for reasons still unknown, on the night of 10 to 11 November 2008.
The rider and Olympic champion Pierre Durand is the current Chairman of the Board of Directors INSEP ( J.0. 's December 18, 2008).

Mission
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Sports , he assures the elite of French sport conditions for athletes to balance all the aspects necessary for its growth. The site, based in the Bois de Vincennes , in the 12th arrondissement of Paris , includes on its 34 hectares, all facilities necessary for elite athletes, either in purely sports, school, university or professional. It also hosts a large number of residents.
The property, which hosts a large number of disciplines is a major provider of Medal of French sport, such as twenty medals on September 30 of the Olympic Games of Atlanta. Athletes, in addition to the conditions of training, find the best French athletes and coaches in their field, ensuring competition is conducive to improving their results.
This site is served by the subway station Chteau de Vincennes. (But far enough at least to take the bus)
