The National School of Public Works of the State (ENTPE) is an engineering school French under the tutelage of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transportation and Housing (MEDDTL) a member of the University of Lyon. It is located since 1975 in Vaulx-en-Velin , a suburb of Lyon.

Summary

Introduction

History

Founded in 1954 in Paris ( Boulevard Saint-Germain , in the present premises of the ESTP ) ENTPE moved in 1975 in the Lyon region. It is installed at Vaulx-en-Velin , in a building designed by architect Jacques Perrin-Fayolle. The Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Architecture de Lyon (NWEST) is on the same campus.

Mission

The main mission is to ensure ENTPE in three years the initial training of civil engineers of the State (ITPE) and civil servants. These engineers, whose training enables them to perform the tasks of sustainable land use planning, exercise their functions on behalf of the State, local authorities or private companies.

In addition, as part of decentralization and changing missions of the state, ENTPE train more and more civil engineers for local authorities and private companies.

Status

The school has long been a service of the Ministry of Public Works. Decree No. 2006-1545 of 7 December 2006 in fact, since 1 January 2007 a public institution with scientific, cultural and professional outside universities. Since then, she has a legal personality, under the supervision of the Minister of Ecology and Sustainable Development, as well as the ENPC.

Successive Directors

ENTPE managers are appointed by the Government for a period of five years.

  • Michel Prunier
  • Michel Gerodolle (- September 15, 1989)
  • Daniel Sene (15 September 1989 to 20 February 1995)
  • Perdrizet Francis (February 20, 1995 - 2000)
  • Dhnein Philip (2000 - 2004)
  • Philippe Sardin (September 1, 2004 - 2010)
  • Jean-Baptiste Lesort (as of August 25, 2010, for five years)

Recruitment

Students can be recruited or civil servants:

  • Engineering students officials paid their first year of school, commit to work in exchange for the state. The commitment is 8 years from their date of establishment in the body of ITPE (that is to say at the end of the second year). The net salary of an engineering student admitted via the official external competition is about 1200.
  • Engineering students are not civil servants are called "civilian students. They are not paid while in school and work when they leave school in the private sector, parastatal, or possibly in local government service after passing the assistance of local authority engineer. This "civil sector was created in 1987 and is expected to occur in normal operation through increased promotions to come.

External Competitions

The external competitive recruitment of student civil engineers of the state is at a level higher mathematics , the stream programs of preparatory scientific MP, PC, PSI, TSI and BCPST.

Students admitted by those three contests may be civilians or officials, according to their choices and rankings.

The internal competition

There is also an internal competition reserved for officials of the state civil service. Each year, between 10 and 15 officials are selected in this way.

Recruitment Title

A procedure for direct admission to second year, on track and open to some students or French nationals of the European Union , can integrate ENTPE. It is necessary to be a candidate to hold a Masters or a first year master's in mathematics, mechanics, mathematics and basic applications, physics or engineering. The honors are required to license as well as in the first year of the Master. Contrary to what is practiced in other schools of engineering, it is not possible for students in their final year of IUT or BTS to integrate ENTPE.

Foreign Students

Foreign students (excluding EU ) should enjoy special admission. They can integrate ENTPE via the external competition (competition level mathematical special foreign) or on track. They are all civilians, the French civil service is not open to people who do not have the nationality of a Member State of the Union.

In the case of admission as a second-year engineering cycle of a foreign student from outside the European Union, and with a high level of foreign control or master M1, the training is paying off. Tuition fees amount to 2 400 for the first year of admission (second year engineering) and 3 600 for the second (third year of engineering).

ENTPE also provides training to foreign officials as part of binational agreements (ad hoc training of Chinese engineers, Indonesia, Algeria etc..).

Training

Initial training of ITPE

ENTPE realized in the initial 3 years of general engineers in all fields of sustainable management of territories, ITPE. Whether civil or public servants, students receive all of the same formation. Training takes place as follows:

  • First year:
    • Common Core Year 1
    • Work placement for a minimum of 4 weeks
  • Third year:
    • 3rd Year core curriculum
    • Formation of VA
    • Work graduation for a period of 3 months

Students also have the possibility of a gap year for a period of one year between the second and third year of study.

Technical training of some army corps

ENTPE also provides technical training for military engineers of the Corps' engineers and technical studies of marine works "of the National School of maritime works. These engineering students after three years of formal schooling of other students. Every year a few students of the School of the air are also complementary to the ranks of students in third year ENTPE.

Additional training

ENTPE offers a wide range of additional training, allowing students to obtain an additional degree. It is thus possible to engineering students ENTPE, whether civilians or officials, follow the following degree programs:

Continuing Education

This type of training is for public servants working. ENTPE excuse the many courses on behalf of the central administration of his ministry :

  • Training taken postage, for executives (attached Administrative TPE engineers, executives ...) arriving at a new position. For example "Public Facilities cell leader" or "head of territorial subdivision.
  • Postgraduate recruitment for staff from professional examinations, recruitment on track or IRA.
  • Training for executives of Equipment with a cycle of Superior Management of Equipment and training on transport economics
  • Continuing education, in line with the initial training ITPE after a few months in office

Doctoral

Since 2007, ENTPE is empowered to grant the Ph.D. in one of six research laboratories, which it hosts. Nearly 70 students are enrolled in doctoral ENTPE for an annual flow of twenty defenses.

Partnerships

Partnerships French

The school is a member of associations and state agencies as follows:

International partnerships

The School provides opportunities for students to follow degree courses abroad, thanks to several partnerships with foreign universities:

Research

Along with his training missions, ENTPE has developed a strong research activity in his 6 laboratories, each corresponding to one of the main areas of expertise of the School. Pole Research School employs nearly 200 people (researchers - teachers and researchers - PhD students - administrative and technical staff). Four of the six laboratories are units of the CNRS.

Research Laboratories

Six laboratories are located on the campus of Vaulx-en-Velin :

  • Laboratoire des Sciences de l'Habitat, or LASH , URA 1652 of CNRS
  • Transportation Traffic Engineering Laboratory or lawful, mixed unit ENTPE and the INRETS
  • Geomaterials Laboratory or LGM , URA 1652 of CNRS
  • Laboratoire d'Economie des Transports, or LET, UMR 5593 of CNRS
  • City Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory, Space, Society and RIVES, UMR 5600 CNRS
  • Laboratory of Environmental Sciences and LSE

The six laboratories of the School are in close contact with the outside, whether with the services of the State ( Central Laboratory of Roads and Bridges , Scientific and Technical Centre Building ) or with major private sector companies ( Philips , EDF , Solvay , Total , Eurovia , etc.).

Opportunities

As its name suggests, ENTPE form of trades public works , but also those of the building , the planning , the environment , the transportation and generally trades in the land. Another name for civil engineers of the state is also that of engineer sustainable management of territories.

Students civilians

Output of school, students overwhelmingly civilians moving to the big companies of the land or to private consulting firms, such as Egis , Eiffage , Vinci , Arcadis , Bouygues , etc..

Civilian students are also able to achieve a fourth year of specialized study in a French or foreign university or to make a Voluntary International Company for a period of one year in the country of their choice. They can also do a doctorate in school or university of their choice.

Officials Students

On leaving school, students ENTPE officials are offered the following choices (subject to availability):

  • They can achieve a PhD in a laboratory ENTPE in a body of scientific and technical network of the Ministry of Equipment, or in a university laboratory. A dozen students choose this option every year (12 students in 2006).
  • They can move towards what is termed a "fourth year of specialization", that is to say, a year of additional study in a French or foreign university or in another large French school. Scores of students are affected by the fourth year of specialization each year (17 students in 2006, 14 in 2009).
  • The dozen students who undertook a dual curriculum engineer - architect can finish their schooling in architecture school, taking a position being offered to students equipped officers (subject to approval by the Ministry, officials involved 12 students in 2007).
  • The school offers the opportunity for some students to go on international voluntary administration. Those volunteering are generally carried out within the French administration abroad (embassies, permanent representations of French in international institutions) or overseas (civil aviation services in overseas etc..). In 2006, four students were involved (2 Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 2 breasts of NGOs ).
  • Finally, the vast majority of student employees (more than one hundred) opts for a classical station.
  • It is still possible for students servants, although it remains quite rare, from the private sector after having broken the contract between the State, paying tuition fees incurred and wages earned (about 75 000, generally supported by the new employer).
