Centre of Lille (1900)

The first school of Arts and Crafts was founded in 1780 to Liancourt in the Oise (Farm of the Mountain) by the Duc de La Rochefoucauld for wards of his regiment of dragoons.

On 10 August 1786, the Duc de la Rochefoucauld-Liancourt, who is also Grand Master of the Wardrobe of the King , got the king Louis XVI an order "to establish a school of military application for a hundred children of disabled soldiers "Farm of the Mountain. The king granted an allowance of eight cents per day per student, plus two under for lighting and heating. End September 1787 workshops are in working order. The vocational school opened its doors a few months later. But the revolution came soon after and the Duke was forced into exile in 1792 and only returned to France in 1799.

In 1800 , there is the castle of Compiegne one of three colleges that were the French Military Academy. These establishments had military status. After a tour of the College of Compigne, the First Consul finds that the investment made by the state is not very useful except for those pursuing a military career. Having visited shortly before the industrial north, there was found no foremen can make plans or calculations. He decides to change Education College of Compiegne to fill this gap. A few days after that visit, seemed to monitor the act of 6 ventose year XI (25 February 1803 ). He said: "from Germinal year XI, the instruction at the College of Compiegne will aim to train good workers and foremen." The 19 year Pluviose xi, College of Compigne is famous College of Arts and Crafts. The Duc de La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt received, including using Monge , Chaptal , Berthollet and Laplace for the creation of the technical school.

The second school was founded in 1804 to Beauprau near Cholet , but was really busy until after that of Chalons-sur-Marne (now Chalons-en-Champagne ), which was founded in 1806 following the removal School of Compiegne , itself derived from that of Liancourt, and became Imperial Academy of Arts and Crafts in 1804. Were added gradually centers of Angers ( 1815 ), of Aix-en-Provence ( 1843 ) of Lille ( 1900 ), of Cluny ( 1901 ) of Paris ( 1912 ) of Bordeaux ( 1963 ) of Karlsruhe ( 1996 ) and Metz ( 1997 ).

On 22 October 1907 , Gaston Doumergue (then Minister of Industry and Trade) is to enact legislation creating the diploma of engineer Arts and Crafts.

In 1963 , after a sea-level programs, schools of arts and crafts become national colleges of arts and crafts (ENSAM).

In 1976 , the Ministry of Education assigns ENSAM status of high school , which involves reducing the curriculum to three years, after a two-year preparatory course ( preparatory classes for grandes coles ), Graduate Mathematics and Mathematics Special and only after other university technology).

In May 1980 , the Society of Professional Engineers Arts and Crafts (alumni association, the term combination does not exist at its inception in 1846) celebrates the bicentennial farm at Liancourt she bought and where restoration is undertaken.

In 1990 , the school acquired the status EPCSCP ( public institution with scientific, cultural and professional ) such large institution The school today

Positioning

The engineer Arts and Crafts, often nicknamed Gadzarts (derived from "guy for the Arts") is a general engineer of technical competence, pragmatic and flexible, which is centered around the training of mechanical engineering, power engineering and engineering industry. Arts et Metiers ParisTech cole Products and Production Systems. The organization of Arts et Mtiers ParisTech based on Centers for Teaching and Research (CER) which form a network coordinated by an Executive Board, making Arts et Mtiers ParisTech a national school regionalized, which is supposed to give it a proximity to the industrial environment.

Teaching centers and research still hold schools open to Aix-en-Provence , Angers , Bordeaux-Talence , Chalons-sur-Marne , Cluny , Lille , Metz and Paris. The opening is marked with international partnerships with 65 foreign institutions. Among these routes, there are 2 integrated dual-diploma courses: a Franco-German (CER de Metz) and a Franco-Hispano-Portuguese (the CER de Bordeaux), which in addition to other degree programs.

ParisTech

Main article: ParisTech.

In 1991, Arts et Metiers ParisTech created with 9 other schools of engineering which is now the center of research and higher education ParisTech , a public establishment of scientific cooperation involving 12 engineering schools considered the best in their respective fields; there are particular, the Ecole Polytechnique , the Ecole des Ponts , ParisTech and the ESPCI ParisTech.

The School will continue to bear the name of Arts and Crafts which is hers since 1803. The Company has made protecting Arts and Crafts as a trademark, and maintains that protection.

According to the White Paper published in early 2008, the abbreviated name, which has evolved over time (ENAM a century ago, ENIAM 50 years ago, then ENSAM) disappears in the statement of the School and is replaced by the name of Arts et Mtiers ParisTech brand, which now appears on all documents . On this occasion, a new logo is created.

Integration period

Upon arrival at school, students experience a first-year integration period of about three months called TTP (Time Transmission of Traditions). For gadzarts , this time orchestrated by the students of second year, aims to unify each promotion based on values which endure in their community for over two centuries. The gadzarts claim that these traditions allow engineering students to develop humanistic values such as fraternity, solidarity, mutual support, respect for others, commitment to serve the common good . These measures face opposition from the society of elders and the students' association. The 23 and 24 October the gadzarts demonstrate outside the Hotel Matignon. That same year, Segolene Royal , Minister for School Education, did pass a statute that prohibits hazing (text embedded in the Penal Code ).

Starting in 2003, communication exercises and changes have been made about this period in order to change the negative image it can peddle to the public. In particular, the terms of the transmission period values have been revised so that each entering student chooses to participate or not.

The AMJE was established in 1999. It is an association which aims to achieve benefits in connection with multiple areas of competence of the school. Labeled Junior Enterprise in just three years by the National Confederation of Junior Enterprises, is among Junior Enterprises that have been increasing most rapidly.

CNJE then awarded him the label "dynamism" in 2004, then the following year, the coveted label Engineering 2005. In 2010, reiterated AMJE performance engineer for the label.

The 90 permanent members work closely with members of the 8 3000 AMJE (Lille, Aix, Bordeaux, Chalons Angers, Cluny, Metz, Paris), scattered throughout the territory. A federation allows them to respond more precisely to the requirements of enterprises.

Balls

The Abbey of Cluny during the Grand Gala

One of the biggest events organized by students of the school is the Grand Ball, or gala, hosted annually by each center. The dances take place either in the precincts of the school or in a room rented for the occasion. The organization returned in full to the student center in question, including the manufacture of sets, bars and other elements of the evening. The gala is a success and proof of the cohesion and organization of faculty promotions. Some centers recycle a share of scenery from one year to another, while others prefer to begin each year on a new basis in accordance with a particular theme.

Dances traditionally mark the integration of a new promotion - often in December - or some special dates in the year.

  • At Aix-en-Provence , three Galas are held:
    • The Ball's Bapt, following the baptism ceremony for new gadzarts in December;
    • The ball 508, which originally celebrated the midpoint of the training of students at school;
    • The ball 100 days (100 days before graduation) who welcomes the month of May more than 5,000 people.
  • At Angers , two galas are held:
    • The Night of St. Cecilia , after the christening ceremony of the new Gadz'Arts in December;
    • The Gala of Deliverance, which corresponds to the end of the school year in the second year.
  • At Bordeaux , the Gala Fignos annually hosts some 3,000 people to celebrate the creation of the new promotion Gadz'Arts.
  • At Chalons-en-Champagne , the Ball Fignos annually hosts about 3,000 people to celebrate the christening of the new promotion Gadz'Arts (and over 5000 in 2006 to mark the bicentenary of the center)
  • At Cluny , the Grand Gala welcomes every year in May some 4,000 people. Which qualifies second largest gala de France, behind that of the Ecole Polytechnique (France).
  • At Lille , the Fignoss Night Gala is the baptism of the new class and meet in December, about 3,000 people and takes place in the school.
  • In Metz , the Grand Gala Luxury annually brings together students and alumni of the school at the baptism of first graders.
