The National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon is a great school of engineering research and French created by Jean Capelle , then rector of the University of Dakar, under the law of creation of 18 March 1957 and opened on 12 November 1957. This was the founding father Normale model " NHI ", established under the Fourth Republic, with many objectives: to train engineers, participate in studies, research and testing, but also animate the regions, and facilitate social advancement.

The school is located on the campus LyonTech in the district of La Doua in Villeurbanne.

She is a leader in network INSA (Lyon, Rennes , Rouen , Strasbourg , Toulouse ) that forms each year nearly 10% of French engineers. This network should also include a facility in Lille (never realized) and an institution in Algiers, transferred under construction at the new Republic of Algeria.

Its training includes, in addition to engineering training for a period of 5 years, 10 research masters, 8 specialized Masters , 8 graduate schools and many short courses (continuing education).

History

In line with the project Joubin 1917, and under pressure from the Planning Commission as elites Lyons, Gaston Berger , Director General of Higher Education, aims to bring together higher education and scientific technique Lyon's website Doua. "Insa" must train 1,000 engineers and 1,000 technicians per year, and schools become in Lyon specialized departments .

From February 1957, 100 hectares of land from the Doua are gradually released by the three agencies who shared them: the army, his tenant Equine Society of Lyons, and the PTT relay who is their radio-telecommunications. For the first intake in 1957, it had to be built directly on land not yet transferred, otherwise the future institute, at least the buildings required for a first class of 300 students.

If the bet to open the Institute in the month of November 1957 was held, this was due in large part to innovations in methods of work adopted by the directors.

Admission

The admission procedure is common to all national institutes of applied sciences. We can integrate the school after the bachelor S or TSI , or equivalent qualifications from other countries . Procedures also exist to integrate the school in second, third or fourth year.

First Round

Since 1969, the first cycle consists of two years of basic teachings. Engineering students receive a basic scientific training, including practical work in a team and humanities (languages, communication management, etc.). This then enables them to move to one of 12 graduate courses. The first year of the undergraduate is probationary. In this cycle, some are international chains (EURINSA, AMERINSA, ASINSA).

Second Round

The second cycle lasts for three years, students have the choice between the 12 channels available:

The specialty engineering plastics mechanical processes can also be done through apprenticeship .

engineer by training

The training helps people who hold a HND / HNC or equivalent level, having served at least 3 years to get a job engineering degree identical to those issued in initial training. After a preparatory cycle of upgrade, they include the fourth year of traditional training.

Research Master

INSA Lyon offers 10 master's research. This job-oriented training and research, based on 20 research laboratories.

Doctorate

The dissertation is a diploma attesting to three years of training and research studies within a research team under the guidance of a teacher or researcher authorized to conduct research. The NHI has a doctoral program within the institution .

Specialized Masters

The NHI delivers six Masters specialist accredited by the Confrence des Grandes Ecoles :

The NHI also issues in collaboration with Ecole des Mines de Paris ( MINES ParisTech ) and the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing two specialized Masters Franco-Chinese Environmental Management.

A large French research center

With 20 laboratories, 16 of which contracted with the public institution of science and technology (16 CNRS, 1 INSERM, 1 INRA), INSA Lyon is a major research center positioned in response to social and economic issues. It consists of about 650 teachers and researchers, 250 students in Master of Science , 640 doctoral students and about 130 theses are defended each year.

INSACAST is a subsidiary of INSA Lyon specializes in training throughout life. INSACAST hosts 2500 students and conducts over 350 training courses per year. Student Life

INSA Lyon has an accommodation capacity of 2700 students in its eleven residences and has multiple food services. There are four restaurants: a grill (The Cricket), a pizzeria (L'Olivier), a traditional restaurant (Castor and Pollux) and a take-out restaurant (Le Prvert).

Students' Associations

Favored by the boarding community life (120 associations ), built around the Office of Students , is intense and dynamic. Students have a Student House (over 1000 m), a real pole of relaxation and services.

Among the most important student events on campus include the Forum Rhone-Alpes, the week of solidarity Karnaval Humanitarian Raid INSA Lyon, Cross, Gala, but also associations that reflect the international dimension of INSA Lyon especially with the Aceimi (Association of researchers and engineering students Moroccan INSA), Asian Week ... The campus is marked each year by 24 hours of the NHI , a major student demonstration (50 000 spectators for all three concerts, shopping and numerous activities). Finally, the alumni association has a local campus of the school. Specific projects are also emerging: in 2007, the project Sol'R (design of a solar airship to cross the handle), or in 2010, NHI Perch'formance step Perche Elite round.

ETIC NHI Technologies, the Junior Enterprise INSA Lyon

ETIC NHI Technologies is the Junior Enterprise of INSA Lyon. It allows companies to draw on the expertise of students at INSA Lyon for projects as well as innovative productive.

The junior company is run by students of INSA elected for a term of one year. Students come to seek an opportunity to apply their entrepreneurial skills and interpersonal skills.

ETIC, the Junior Entreprise of INSA Lyon, since 1981 carries Studies Technology and Industry for SMEs, large groups and local communities.

ETIC NHI technology is consistently ranked by CNJE ( National Confederation of Junior Enterprises ) among the top 30 Junior-Entreprises de France.

Forum Rhone-Alpes

First forum to recruit engineers in France, Rhone-Alpes Forum is historically run by engineering students of INSA Lyon, which joined 8 other Great Schools in the region: CPE Lyon , INP Grenoble , ECAM , ISARA , ISTIL , ITECH , EI.CESI , Telecom Saint-Etienne. The latest edition of the Rhone-Alpes Forum brought together over 140 companies and nearly 7000 visitors. The event is organized by Forum Organization 1901 law association whose goal is to bring students and businesses.

The ^26th edition of the Rhone-Alpes Forum will be held on 16 and 17 March 2011 at La Doua Campus LyonTech .

The Association of Engineers INSA Lyon (A2IL)

The alumni association at INSA Lyon (A2IL) is located on the campus of the school showing the close link with the engineering students still in training .

The NHI alumni associations are organized territorially, they are "federations". Federations had in late 2008, about 50,000 engineers : jobs, networking, help, organizing meetings ... are the main activities of the alumni association. The NHI is among engineers tu usual, at the initiative of the oldest when two engineers from the school meet.
