Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir - - born in Rayfoun in Lebanon on 15 May 1920 , is a cardinal Maronite Lebanese patriarch of the Maronite Church , from 19 April 1986.

Biography
Priest
He follows his training seminar Maronite Ghazir in Lebanon and the Saint Joseph University in Beirut.
He was ordained priest the Maronite 7 May 1950 by Cardinal Pierre-Paul Meouchi.
He exercises his ministry in the parish of Rayfoun and with the Maronite Patriarch as secretary.
Bishop
Maronite named auxiliary bishop of Antioch, June 19, 1961, he was consecrated on 16 July.
Patriarch
He was elected Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for the Maronite Church April 19, 1986 following the resignation of Cardinal Anthony Khoraiche and is actually spent April 27, 1986.
He submitted his resignation to the Vatican, which is currently reviewing the issue. His resignation would be effective in February 2011. Cardinal He was named Cardinal of the Catholic Church by Pope John Paul II in the consistory of 26 November 1994. Patriarch of the Maronite of Antioch and All the East, it is also an important political figure of Lebanon. During the Lebanese presidential crisis of 2007-2008, he attempted a reconciliation between the opposing parties, on one occasion he met with President Bush to resolve the conflict . So after the appointment of Michel Sleiman , he traveled to Australia where he was received with the honors of Head of State . He participated in 2008 for World Youth Days in Australia and was hosted at a stadium in Parramatta before 20,000 people . It is the third cardinal Maronite and the 76th patriarch of the Maronite Church. For the Roman Curia , he is a member of the Congregation for Eastern Churches. See also
