The University Henri Poincar (official name: Nancy-I) is a national university located in Nancy in France. It was created in its present form in 1970 , but its roots lie in creating the first university in Lorraine in 1572 ). The UHP has today 18 000 students, 45 research laboratories, 2,500 staff. It is part of the PRES Universit de Lorraine.

The first university in Lorraine was founded in 1572 by the joint commitment of Duke Charles III of Lorraine and the Cardinal Charles de Lorraine (1524-1574) in the nearby town of Pont--Mousson.
