Myrrh is a gum resin aroma produced by the myrrh tree Commiphora or molmol). the myrrh tree is producing the fruit of the same name: myrrh. A gum roughly similar, the balm of Mecca , is produced by Commiphora opobalsamum. It could be one of the many constituents of the treacle of the pharmacopoeia Marine West in the eighteenth century History

The history of myrrh is as old as that of incense. The Egyptians know the last four millennia, and formed a component of kyphi. It was also used in embalming. In the Bible , myrrh is one of the main components of a holy anointing oil , but also a perfume charged with eroticism , referred to as seven times in the Song of Songs , by example in the verse I, 13: "My beloved is for me a bouquet of myrrh resting between my breasts." Myrrh symbolizes the profound intimacy or passionate love for Jesus . The Greeks made great use of myrrh, going so far as their flavor wine. Wine mixed with myrrh was offered to Jesus (who refused) before his crucifixion to alleviate the pain of this huge ordeal. The Greeks also associated with a legend, Myrrha was the daughter of Cinyras , King of Cyprus. gorgonians pushed her to have incestuous relations with his father. After which it was transformed into myrrh tree, whose bark is split to give birth to Adonis.

Manufacturing

The gum resin is harvested in the trunk of the tree where it seeps naturally. The liquid rubber cures in air to form reddish-brown concretions can sometimes reach a weight of more than 200 grams .

It is then distilled into an essential oil thick orange. A dark or too high fluidity indicates alteration by a solvent.

Usage

Myrrh is used as a component of drugs (antispasmodic and stimulant properties), but it is the perfume that continues to make the glory, especially in oriental type perfumes, where it increases the sensual notes of pink.

She enters the composition of the Benedictine.

Aromatherapy: This gommo extracted an essential oil, oleoresin interesting.

"Myrrh" Medication is used to treat ulcers of the mouth and gums. (Astringent).

Also quoted by Pliny the Elder , called troglodite myrrh is one of several components of treacle as Maistrali, Navy doctor .
