Murad Iii
Murad III (born July 4 1546 in Manisa - January 15 , 1595 ) was the 12th sultan of the Ottoman Empire. He reigned from 1574 until his death.
Biography
Son of Sultan Selim II and Nur-Banu , Murad III study in one of the largest schools of Manisa, where he learned to speak the Arabic and Persian.
He became governor of Manisa following accession to the throne of his father, then the death of the sultan, he succeeded him on 22 December 1574.
His authority was undermined by the influences of the harem, but his Vizier Mehmed Sokollu maintained partly imperial authority.
Sokullu served as vizier until his assassination in October 1579.
Under his reign the Ottoman women have gained more rights and more power. Thus, mothers and women of the Sultans have gradually started to dominate the empire.
Murad's reign was marked by numerous wars, economic decline of Iran and of Austria , the conquest of North Africa the establishment of the Astronomical Observatory of Taqi al-Din and weakening of Ottoman institutions.
