Mortalium Animosity

Mortalium animosity is an encyclical of Pope Pius XI on the unity of the Church of Jesus Christ. Given on 6 January 1928 , she casts a critical eye on some aspects of the ecumenical movement today.

The document denounces vigorously panchristianisme the false conciliatory approach , the indifference and relativism. It is found that the majority of ecumenical bodies give too low a place in the Catholic Church.

The main argument made against the setting is obviously panchrtiens that they reject the doctrine of the unity of the Church of Christ. The uniqueness of the Church and its universal, apostolic and Petrine is shown quotes from the Gospels.

The encyclical also opposed to pietism and the archaeologist , who argue that the visible unity of the Church existed only at the time of the apostolic times. The religious federalism is frowned upon as essentially non-Catholic.

The pope writes that the real meaning of the sentence Ut Unum Sint is the happy return of the lost sheep into the boat of Peter. It is difficult to understand the idea that opponents of the apostolic tradition could coalesce with the defenders of it.

According to Pius XI, there is no hierarchy of dogma as one might speak of a hierarchy of values, since each dogma must express an aspect of revealed faith. He cites Lactantius and Cyprian of Carthage to show that the Fathers of the Church has always regarded the Catholic Church as the one and only Church.

In conclusion, the Pope argues that he truly wants to unite all Christians, but that the relationship must be led by the prince of the apostles, Peter, as it is written in the Gospel.
