History
Selections before Moroccan independence
It exists from the 1930 Moroccan selection and Larbi Benbarek is called the first time in 1935 with the team "regional" from Morocco to face Premier League Algeria in Oran.
Morocco after the Protectorate
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation ( ) was founded in 1955 , a year before the end of the French protectorate. At the end of the French protectorate in 1956 , the Moroccan national team takes its place in the international arena, and played his first official international match as an independent country against the Iraq on 19 October 1957 , under the Pan-Arab Games in Lebanon , a game that ends with a score of three goals everywhere. The Royal Moroccan Federation is affiliated to FIFA since 1960.
On 6 September 1961 held the largest victory in Morocco against the Saudi Arabia , home to score 13 goals to 1. In 1962 , Morocco came close to World Cup play-off beating by Spain (0-1, 2-3). On 11 October 1964 , he recorded its largest defeat against Hungary , with a score of 6 goals to 0 in the framework of the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 , the first round of finals. The Royal Moroccan Federation is a member of the Confederation of African Football since 1966. It was not until the 1970 CAN for Morocco to participate in the playoffs.
The golden generation
The golden generation is made up of Mustapha Hadji, Bourdebala Aziz, Mohamed Timoumi, Badou Zaki, Nouredine Naybet, Salahdedine Basir Ahmed Faras, Houmane Jarir, Shukri Mustafa, Ahmed Bahja, Abdelmajid Dolmy, Mustapha El Haddaoui ... This generation has existed from the 1970s until the 1990s. And thanks to it they have qualified for the World Cup 1970, 1986, 1994 and 1998. Morocco is the 2nd African country that has the most qualified in the World Cup after Cameroon.
The first participation of Morocco in World Cup
During the preliminary round , Morocco has been experiencing difficulty getting rid of Senegal (1-0 / 1-2 / 2 - 0) and even against Tunisia (0-0 / 0-0 / 2-2 aet). During the final round, he managed to qualify ahead of the Nigeria and Sudan. Morocco becomes the second African country to qualify for World Cup (the first was the Egypt in 1934 ). At the 1970 World Cup , he met the FRG. Despite a 2-1 defeat, the team of Morocco opened the brand Houmane Jarir , making him the first Moroccan striker in the world cup. Then she loses against Peru (0-3) and managed to take his first point against Bulgaria by 1-1, thanks to Maouhoub Ghazouani the 60th minute. She finished last in the group.
First track: Africa Cup of Nations 1976
After a first appearance at the CAN 1972 with three draws against the Congo , the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan , Morocco's team won its first international title at the African Cup of Nations 1976 in Ethiopia , particularly through its striker Ahmed Faras , author of three goals. That year, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decides to test a new form of competition with a second round of championship form. After completing the first group, Morocco faces in the finals and beat the Egypt (2-1, goals from Faras and Zahraoui) and Nigeria (2-1, goals from Faras and Guezzar), and the last game decisive between Morocco to Guinea. The Guineans are in need of a victory while the Moroccans can settle for a draw. Trailing 1-0, goal scored by Cherif Souleymane at the 33 th minute, Moroccans equalize at 1-1 by Baba Ahmed Majrouh five minutes after the game team and claimed the continental trophy. CAN is the only won by the Atlas Lions.

In return, he won all three matches: 2-0 against Sierra Leone, 2-0 against Gabon 1-0 against Guinea-quatoriale.Une Once qualified, Morocco was in Group D with South Africa, Benin and Morocco Nigeria.Le won his first two match against Nigeria (1-0) and Benin (4-0), and equalizes against South Africa (1-1). Morocco crushes Mali 4 -0 in the semi final after a historic victory against Algeria in the quarterfinals (3-1). But they lost 2-1 against Tunisia in finale.c is Badou Zaki who was at the head of this quipe.Cette remain competitive in the history of Moroccan football.
From 1976 to 1986
The Morocco grazed twice in 1974 and 1982 participation in the World Cup, losing to the only African country qualified in 1974, Zaire , in 1982 against the Cameroon. At the CAN 1978 , it did not confirm his performance in 1976, eliminated in the first round. In 1980 , he took third place, beating the Egypt with a score of 2 goals to 0. At home in 1983 , he won the Mediterranean Games. It was qualified neither for the CAN 1982 , nor that of 1984. At the CAN 1986 , Morocco's team took fourth place, beaten by the Ivory Coast on the score of 3-2 with goals from Ghiati and Sahil.
The first stunt in the final stages of World Cup held in Mexico in 1986. After a first appearance at the finals in 1970 in Mexico resulted in a first round elimination, Moroccans trained at the time by the Brazilian Jos Faria qualify again for the 1986 FIFA World Cup (still in Mexico). Led by players like Aziz Bouderbala , Boushaba Hmida, Merry Krimau or Mohamed Timoumi , Morocco became the first African country to pass the first round of a World Cup , after two 0-0 draws against the England and Poland and a win 3-1 (lined with Abderrazak Khairi and purpose of Abdelkrim Merry Krimau) against Portugal. He also printed out at the head of one of the least inspired groups to England and Poland. Eighth-finals, the team lost narrowly in Morocco (0-1) against West Germany by a goal in the 89th minute of Lothar Matthaus.
World Cup 1994
In the first round Morocco falls into Group F with Ethiopia, Tunisia and Morocco Bnin.Le won 5-0 against Ethiopia, he won 1-0 against Benin, it's 1-1 tie against Tunisia. Morocco, finished first with 10 points. In the second qualifying round the tomb Morocco in Group 2 with Zambia and Senegal. Morocco won 1-0 against Senegal, he lost 2-1 against Zambia, he won 3-1 against Senegal and he lost 1-0 against Zambia World Cup 1998 In qualifying, Morocco crushes Sierra Leone 4-0, conceded a draw against Ghana 2-2, 4-0 win against Gabon, wins 1-0 against Sierra Leone win 1-0 and win against Ghana 2-0 against Gabon. Morocco, finished first with 16 points. He falls in Group A with Brazil, Norway and Scotland. Morocco is flush against Norway 2-2, lost 3-0 against Brazil and then crushed Scotland 3-0, Morocco, believed to be qualified but Norway won 2-1 against Brazil. Brazil finished first with 6 points, Norway second with 5 points, followed by Morocco with 4 points and 1 point with Scotland. When the CAN 1988 , at home , Morocco finished top of its group, but was beaten by Cameroon in the semi, and takes the fourth place, bowing 1-1 4-3 tab cons of Algeria. He was eliminated in the first round of the CAN 1992. He did not participate in editions of the CAN 1994 and 1996. After missing the edition of the World Cup Soccer 1990 , the Moroccan qualify for two more finals in 1994 and 1998. If their elimination in the first round in 1994 makes sense (3 losses (0-1 against the Belgian , 1-2 against Saudi Arabia, the goal of Mohammed Chaouch and 1-2 against the Netherlands , the goal of Hassan Nader ) that of 1998 is cruel. After a draw against Norway (2-2, goals from Mustapha Hadji and Abdeljalil Hadda ) and a defeat against Brazil (0-3), Morocco led by Henri Michel beats significantly (3 -0, designed to Abdeljalil Hadda and lined Salaheddine Bassir ) of Scotland during his 3 rd match at St Etienne but was overtaken in the standings by Norway, which prevails in the final minutes of its match against a Brazil already qualified (2-1). At the CAN 1998 , after finishing first in the group, Morocco was eliminated in the quarterfinals by South Africa (1-2). He won the 4th Games of La Francophonie in 2001. For the 2002 World Cup , he came very close to qualification by a few goals but it was Senegal who qualified. More recently, after the first two rounds in 2000 and 2002 , Morocco has redone about him reaching the final the CAN 2004 , but will be beaten by the hosts, the Tunisia of Roger Lemerre (1-2, goal from Youssef Mokhtari ). Two years later, is still the Tunisia that blocks the road to 2006 World Cup , as well the CAN 2006 when Morocco was eliminated in the first round. The 16 November 2007 , the team plays its first match Morocco at the Stade de France, against France , the match ended in a draw (2-2 , goals Tarik Sektioui and Youssef Mokhtari ) . To prepare for the final phase of qualifying, a nice friendly show is to go on February 11 2009 at Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco - Czech Republic. At that time, 30 million hearts beat to the rhythm of the Atlas Lions and their new coach Roger Lemerre. Mouths chant new names, signs of hope, as Mounir El Hamdaoui , top scorer in the Dutch championship, with AZ Alkmaar , or the very young Adel Taarabt , and its sensational dribbling at Tottenham Hotspur. Finally, this friendly match ended in a goalless draw, which is a pretty good performance against a team like the Czech Republic, which appears in the top 15 worldwide. Thus, 28 March 2009 , for the first game against Gabon qualifications, the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca is full of hope, and basketball scores are announced here and there, especially with the trio as expected Hadji-Hamdaoui Chamakh. However, ironically, the match ended in favor of Gabon, by 2 goals to 1. That euphoria side of the approximately 200 fans support their team from Gabon. On the other hand, 60,000 Moroccan fans are still in shock, a score that even the experts did not predict, and some 20,000 fans chanting in the arena, the name of former coach, who led Morocco into finals of the Africa Cup of Nations 2004, Baddou Zaki. Thus, all the football is questioned and 16 April 2009 , Ali Fassi Fihri was elected new president of the FRMF, instead of General Hosni Benslimane. Shortly thereafter, the federal office is largely renewed and a spark of hope is reborn in the heart of the most optimistic. On 7 June 2009 , Morocco makes a solid game against a team of Cameroon Samuel Eto'o. Then, Morocco made a very poor game against the modest team of Togo on 20 June 2009 , which does not yet had its best elements, such as Emmanuel Adebayor. Thus, it is a true drama in four acts that the Moroccan national team has to write its history and chances of qualifying for both competitions such as the 2010 World Cup and CAN 2010 are seriously compromised. All Moroccan fans are very disappointed and most, given the size of Morocco which is relatively cheap, involving as dj vu, the French coach Roger Lemerre, who is known to be little appreciated by media and the public's lack of communication. On 7 July 2009 , with Morocco being the worst place in the world in its history (55th), he was fired by the federation, with a compensation of over 500,000 euros depending on the sources most modest. On 27 July 2009 , a new interim coach (for a contract until January 2010 ) was appointed Hassan Moumen , whose mission is to end the qualifying stages, with at least one qualification to the CAN 2010 , it will be supported by 3 deputies Moroccan. He began his tenure by a 1-1 draw against Congo in friendly match in Rabat. In September 2009, Morocco still carries a game a 1-1 draw against Togo in Lome, this does not arrange or no cases of Morocco and Togo, the next month, Morocco faces Gabon, for a rematch , where Moroccans tilt heavily 3-1. Then finally a disastrous qualifying campaign, Moroccans bow 2-0 against Cameroon in Fez. These poor results will enable the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to reorganize its policy on football. On 8 June 2010 , the Royal Moroccan Football Federation announces the name of the new coach of the national team, she recruits the Belgian coach Eric Gerets who will begin his mission as soon as he finished his contract with the Saudi club Al Hilal Riyadh. On 30 June 2010 , Dominique Cuperly , assistant Eric Gerets, took the reins of the national squad to prepare for the friendly match that took place on 11 August 2010 in Rabat against the Equatorial Guinea. This match ended in a victory for the Atlas Lions, which gave confidence to the new staff of the Moroccan national team. Eric Gerets Moroccan begins his adventure in November 2010, against Northern Ireland in a friendly in Belfast, Moroccans perform a good perfomance collective and individual match ends in a draw (1-1) In February 2011, national team of Morocco imposed itself (3-0) against Niger in a friendly match in Marrakech with a double and a goal Boussoufa of Bakkali The Atlas Lions are in Group D qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations 2012 , with Algeria , the Tanzania and the Central African Republic. The national team began its journey on 4 September 2010 by a draw at home against the team from the Central African Republic. On behalf of the second day of qualifications held on 9 October 2010 , Morocco won in Dar es Salaam (0-1) against Tanzania. The 3rd day of the qualifiers will face Morocco, Algeria in Annaba March 27, 2011. The home jersey worn by Morocco is green and the socks while the jersey worn on the outside is white with green stripes on the socks and they are white. The third jersey worn by the lions of the Atlas is the red, the color of the socks also. The sporting goods company of the Moroccan national team football is Puma.
