Monolatry

The monolatry (or monolatry) is a teaching nun who recognizes the existence of several gods but which worships one. This term is formed from the ancient Greek (mono) which means "one", "unique" and (latreia) which means "worship", "worship".

Unlike monotheism , the monolatry recognizes the existence of other gods , to various national cults, but without the worship. Only one god , one whose monolatry recognize the cult , is considered worthy of veneration.

Some attacks against other gods in the texts of the Old Testament have led some historians of religion to consider the religion of the ancient Hebrews was originally a monolatry more than monotheism. This interpretation , which joined to some degree that of Gnosticism , is not accepted by the theologians of Judaism.

The monolatry is a special case of henotheism.
