Martyrs Brigades Al-Aqsa Mosque ( Arabic : , are one of the faction militia al- Fatah leader Palestinian Yasser Arafat. This organization is one of the most active during the second Intifada. This movement is considered as a group a terrorist by the State of Israel . and the European Union .
Its name comes from the concept Islamic of martyr ANSI that the name of the Al-Aqsa Mosque , a holy place in Islam. The first members of the brigades came from the ranks of Tanzim , a militia of Fatah. Following the death of Yasser Arafat , 11 November 2004 , the movement that he will sign now shares the name of Yasser Arafat Brigades of the shaheed.
Initially, the group had the only goal Defence Forces Israeli settlers and the Occupied Territories. The aim was to conduct a guerrilla against Israeli troops until at the beginning of 2000 , the situation will worsen and that the attacks affecting civilians in Israeli cities. Israel states that neither Fatah nor the Palestinian Authority had made any effort to stop the attacks of movement.
December 18, 2003 , Fatah decided to ask the leaders of Martyrs Brigades Al-Aqsa on the board of the party, openly acknowledging their membership in the movement. Israel issued documents found in Arafat's records and proving that it had tacitly approved the attacks perpetrated by the Brigades.
In October 2005 , when the President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced during an official speech, that "the regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time", the Brigades issued a statement in which they announced their "full identification of the words President of Iran and their support for these positions open and honest "

Relations with Arafat and Fatah
Relations maintained by the Brigades with Arafat still remain ambiguous because of conflicting information from various group leaders. If Maslama Thabet said received orders from Fatah, Naser Badawi , meanwhile, told the New York Times a few days later that while "we respect our leader," the decision "to conduct attacks remains a matter for Brigades." Badded added that on this point, Arafat had never tried to dissuade the Brigades to carry out suicide attacks, contrary to what was said by the head of the Palestinian Authority.
In November 2003 , journalists from the BBC unveiled a payment of 50,000 USD Brigades. Israel arrested in April 2002 , one of the group's leaders, Marwan Barghouti and convicted him in August, multiple murder, complicity to murder and membership in a terrorist organization. - 2 March 2002 : Beit Yisrael, Jerusalem - 11 killed
- 5 January 2003 : Bus stop south of Tel Aviv - 22 dead
- 29 January 2004 : Rehavia , Jerusalem bus No. 19 to 11 dead
- 14 March 2004 : Port of Ashdod - 10 dead
16 October 2005 , the Brigades claimed responsibility for deadly attack in Gush Etzion Junction, which killed three Israelis and wounded three others.
In March 2004 , a Palestinian boy named Hussam Abdo, was arrested by the IDF at a checkpoint as he was carrying an explosive belt. Following this arrest, a "young cell" members of the Brigades, was dismantled in Nablus .
On 23 September the same year a young man aged 15 was arrested by Israeli security forces
The Brigades, like many paramilitary groups, is known for his advertising posters plastered on many walls in the Palestinian territories.
The Brigades have attacked Israelis and Palestinians alike. In November and December 2003 , they were responsible for the murder of the brother of the mayor of Nablus , Ghassan Shakaa . In February 2004 , Shakaa resigned in protest against the lack of reaction of the Palestinian Authority against the actions of armed militias . During the first three months of 2004 , the Brigades were blamed for several attacks against journalists in the Occupied Territories and the Gaza Strip. These attacks follow the one against the offices of Arab television Al-Arabiya in Ramallah , on 13 September 2003 by masked men claiming to be Martyrs Brigades Al-Aqsa
9 February 2004 , Palestinian journalists in Gaza called for a strike in protest against violence against them.
Martyrs Brigades Al-Aqsa took an important part in the riots that took place in Gaza in July 2004. During these attacks, several Palestinian policemen were abducted and police stations and official buildings attacked by armed men
Brigades of Al-Aqsa Martyrs have carried out several attacks in conjunction with the Islamic group Hamas. These attacks were most often committed in the Gaza Strip.
Brigades have also conducted joint operations with other groups such as Palestinian Islamic Jihad or Hezbollah ,
January 30, 2006 , the offices of the European Union in Gaza were attacked for 30 minutes with a dozen members of the Brigades, asking for an apology to Denmark and Norway after the affair of cartoons

On May 28, 2007, Khaled Abu Chaouich , a leading manager of Martyrs Brigades al-Aqsa, was arrested in Ramallah in the West Bank while he was driving his car near the headquarters of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas by a special unit of the Israeli army. Members of a special unit of the Israeli army disguised as Palestinian civilians forced him to exit his vehicle and took him away. He was wanted by Israel for many years.
On July 14, 2007, Zakaria Zubeidi , considered militia leader in Jenin and the northern West Bank, has agreed to disarm and stop the armed struggle against Israel. The agreement comes as part of broader amnesty by Israel, which sees more and more and Fatah a bulwark against the rising power of Hamas .

- Naif Abu-Sharah : Commander of the local brigades in Nablus (killed by the Defence Forces Israel).
- Marwan Barghouti : top commander of the Brigade (arrested by IDF for killing several Israeli civilians).
- Sirhan Sirhan : accused of murdering five people, including a mother and her children in Kibbutz Metzer. Not to be confused with Sirhan Sirhan responsible for the assassination of Robert Kennedy.
- Zakaria Zubeidi : Brigade Commander's local Jenin , known to its relationship with the activist left-wing Israeli Tali Fahima.
