The region of Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz (in Arabic : ) is one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. It is at the center of the country, and includes part of the High Atlas. Its area is 31,160 sq km, representing 4.5% of national territory, a population of 3,102,652 inhabitants History The region of Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz was created following the enactment of Law No. 47/96 on the organization of the region and Decree No. 2.97.246 of 17 August 1997 fixing the number of regions, their jurisdiction and the number of councilors to be elected . Geographically, the region is bounded on the north by the regions of Chaouia-Ourdigha and Doukkala-Abda , west by the Atlantic Ocean , east of the region Tadla-Azilal and south by the mountains of the High Atlas (Region Souss-Massa-Draa ) . The region includes a prefecture and 4 provinces: These lands are composed of 16 circles covering 216 communes (198 rural communes and 18 urban municipalities) is about 14% of all municipalities at the national level. In 1994, the population of this region was 2,724,204 people or 10% of the national population, with a population density of 85 inhabitants per sq km against 36.6 inhabitants per km for the whole country.
