History
Malm was originally a village. Towards the middle of the thirteenth century the town was erected in the city, presumably to facilitate communications between the Danish capital Copenhagen and the Archbishop of Lund , who was the religious capital of Denmark and throughout Scandinavia. With its increasing economic role (fisheries) and military (construction of the fortress Malmhus ), Malm needed to sixteenth century as the first city in Scania, dethroning Lund.
With the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, Denmark and Sweden should abandon the entire south of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The rise of Malm is cut short, the city is therefore a more advanced Swedish military post. Only towards the end of the eighteenth century it recovers, thanks to the construction of a modern port.
Industrialization arrived in the mid- nineteenth century , accelerated by the introduction of the rail link with Stockholm and the lowering of customs barriers with Denmark. Urban development is accelerating, so in 1900 than in Malm population Norrkping to become the third city of Sweden, a position it has not left since.
This is in Malm in 1951 that was created at the initiative of the German Karl Heinz Priester and Swedish university Per Engdahl , the ephemeral European Social Movement , whose project was to coordinate the different organizations of extreme right and neo-European.
Malm has long been the only major city to choose not to have its own university, one of Lund (now largely included in the suburbs of Malm) sufficient to meet regional needs in higher education. It was not until 1998 that started the University of Malm (Malm Hgskola in Sweden ), which has developed very quickly and enrolls about 21,000 students (2004).
Geography
Malm tackles Copenhagen , the capital of Denmark on the island of Zealand.
Since 1 July 2000 the resund Bridge 8 miles long between Sweden and Denmark , spanning the Strait of Oresund to Malmo to connect Copenhagen , creating a coherent region called the resund region , rehroupant 3,732,000 inhabitants in 2009 and is among the most dynamic regions in Europe.
Of commuter trains cross the bridge every 20 minutes, linking Malm, Copenhagen and subway (opened October 19, 2002), via the Copenhagen Airport (located just off the bridge, the Danish side). Long-distance trains to Stockholm , Gothenburg , Oslo and Hamburg also cross the bridge. All trains stop at Copenhagen Airport.
In March 2005 began construction of a new rail tunnel called Citytunneln (The City Tunnel). The tunnel goes from the central station to Hylievng (south of Malm) where the railway line will connect with that through the resund Bridge. A new stop will be built Triangeln (triangle), a large town square where many commercial and cultural attractions. Upon exiting the tunnel Hylievng, a new shopping center, a sports complex and a hotel will be constructed.
In addition to the Copenhagen Airport, Malmo is served by the Malm-Sturup airport , located about thirty miles southeast of the city. In parallel with the project Citytunneln, it is planned to extend the line of rail to the airport which is currently only connected to Malm by the E65 highway. This airport is mainly used for domestic flights Swedish freight transport, but also by low-cost airlines, and charter flights.
The motorway network has been improved with the opening of the resund Bridge. European route E47 (formerly E6) along the west coast from Malmo in Sweden and Norway to Kirkenes on the Barents Sea. There is also the European route E20 to Helsingborg and Stockholm (E55, formerly E4) and the European route E22 flights to Kalmar.
The locals are proud of the extensive city parks, the largest being Pildammsparken and Kungsparken, long beaches and ancient tradition of decorating the city with plants and flowers in season.

The city is gaining popularity as a tourist destination. It retains much historical charm with its old town full of small shops. There are also the medieval fortress in Malm Malmhus, which houses a small museum of the city and an art gallery rather important.
In 2001, Malm won the Bo01 exhibition entitled "The City of Tomorrow." The selected site is located in the district of Vstra within walking distance of downtown and covers an area of 18 hectares. Several internationally renowned Scandinavian architects were invited to accommodate housing. The project was endorsed by the city of Malm. The aim of the exhibition was to build a self Bo01 total energy. To do this, the site capitalizes heavily on the aquifer. A system of pumping of groundwater allows a flow of water through the neighborhood. This water is heated, or used as a cooling system, which fills 85% heating needs. The rest is supplied by solar panels and wind turbines. Waste management and waste water is incorporated. In both cases, special attention was paid to the concentration of phosphates. A series of measures were incorporated at the design, including the separation of organic materials and the installation of more efficient appliances. The final project offers 500 units of housing, shops, social services, close to exhibition venues and offices, plus a new project to establish a university. However, the project failed to meet the classical dichotomy: build homes of high environmental quality through the latest technology innovations to provide or build affordable housing for less affluent populations.
The Turning Torso , a spectacular residential tower, located in the northern district of the city, whose construction was completed in November 2005. It is the second tallest residential tower of Europe and the tallest building in Scandinavia from its height of 190 meters.
The nightlife is mainly concentrated around two places: Lilla Torg (the Little Square), the place "chic" of the old town with its pubs and terraces, and many nightclubs nearby, and in Mllevngstorget neighborhood most popular place for artists and live music.
In August each year takes place Malmfestivalen the festival sees the streets and squares fill with scenes of concerts and other cultural events for a little over a week, all completely free.
