History
- 1751 , following a break in the succession of bishops and demand of the Malankara Syrian Church, three bishops were sent by the Syro-Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch. It was March Basselios Sakralla, Mar Gregorios of Jerusalem and Mar Ivanios. Although these three bishops would come with the consent of Mar Thomas V (self-proclaimed bishop without the service of Ordination to the death of his predecessor Mar Thoma, Metropolitan of the deceased's Malankara Syrian Church), he refused to cooperate with the patriarchal delegation and claimed in 1761 "dedicate" his own nephew to succeed him as the "Mar Thomas VI", defying the presence of the patriarchal delegation came specifically to Kerala to restore a valid episcopal hierarchy and canon. This provoked a revolt among priests and faithful of the Malankara Church. In 1765 "Mar Thomas V dies leaving his nephew as his successor although not truly bishop!
These facts forced the Metropolitans of the Patriarchal delegation united most of the clergy and people of the Syrian Church Malankara find a spiritual leader who can be truly stable Metropolitan of this local Church of the Syrian Malankar. Their choice fell on the Ramban Kattamangattu Abraham, after his consecration assumed the name of Mar Koorilose.
- 1766 , Mar Gregorios of Jerusalem embodies the Ramban Kattumangattu Abraham as Metropolitan of the Malankara Syrian Church with the title of Mar Koorilose.
However, "Mar Thoma VI did not hear well and led a war against the new Metropolitan, which had to flee persecution persecution, both to save his life by peaceful spirit to forests Thevanal (which he founded with his brother, a small monastery in honor of St. Bahanan. He lived there from 1767 to 1771), but time passed and the old Metropolitan Gregorios March grew old and tired, he certainly did not spend it for a Metropolitan lived in seclusion in prayer and penance, merely translating patristic and liturgical texts of Syriac original language of the people! "Mar Thomas VI" seizing the opportunity of this situation he had himself created s' knelt at the feet of the old Metropolitan and simulating repentance for his past disobedience, obtained absolution and, a new "laying on of hands", the Episcopal rededication.
- 1770 , Mar Gregorios of Jerusalem re-dedicates Mar Thomas VI as of Mar Dionysius.
We were therefore faced with two metropolitans to the only seat in the same Syrian Church of Malankara Church. That's when, after many tribulations, by peaceful spirit, Mar Koorilose left the Territorial Jurisdiction of the Rajah of Cochin to join that, to Anjor-Thozhiyoor, a tiny kingdom under British suzerainty. It was now safe from the intrigues of his adversary.
- 1771 therefore saw the origin of development, in parallel to that of the Malankara Orthodox Church , the Syrian Church of Malabar (in which the term "independence" will be deputy in 1863 by a decision rendered by the Civil the High Court which settled on a different between the two Syriac Patriarchal churches called "Jacobite" and the Malankara Syrian in their claims to compete for the consecration of the Metropolitan Thozhiyoor).
Because of its isolation from the Cathedral of St. George Thozhiur be the "headquarters" for a new jurisdiction among the churches of the Syro-Orthodox family in South India ( Kerala ). Neither the Metropolitan Koorilose nor his successors ever n'entretinrent any antipathy towards the Mother Church of Malankara, also in 1815 and 1817 the bishops had to devote Thozhiyur three bishops for the service of the Mother Church of Malankara : Pulikkottil March Dionysios II, III Punnathra March Dionysios, Dionysios IV Cheppat March. Furthermore, although the circumstances that made March Koorilose was dethroned from the Metropolitan of Malankara Church, the fourth successor Geervarghese March Philoxenos He was on two occasions during a period of crisis in the Malankara Church, proclaimed Metropolitan Malankara, and when in 1829 a similar crisis arises in the Syrian Church of Malabar (of the Throne Thozhiyoor) Cheppat March it came to Dionysios IV Thoziyoor to devote Kootjoor March Koorilose Geevarghese III. Well it happened (until 1856) that the priests of the Church of Arthat have been elected to be consecrated bishops for the service headquarters Thozhioor. This ecclesial fraternity lasted until 1856, when Joseph qu'Alathur Panakkal March Koorilose elected and consecrated as Metropolitan of Thozhiyoor provoked discord: in effect at that time, Youakim Coorilose March, a delegate of the Patriarch of Antioch in Kerala now demanded to devote Metropolitan of Anjor Thozhiyoor-together also wanted the March Athanasius, Metropolitan in charge of Malankara Church. The faithful of the Syrian Church with the support of administrative power and civil legal opted for the consecration was the Malankara Metropolitan: March Athanasius Mathews. Following a lengthy civil trial between March and Patriarchal delegate Koorilose IV, in 1863 the High Court ruled in favor of the latter calling it "independent of" the Syrian Church of Malabar (MISC: Malabar.Independent.Syrian. Church).
- 1977 Rally of Metropolitan Poulose Philexinos III March at the Catholic Church Syro-Malankara , he was buried with other metropolitans in the crypt at the rear of the Cathedral-Catholque Syro-Malankar of Kotayam.
