Maisel Synagogue

The Maisel Synagogue is a synagogue neo-Gothic in Prague , dating from in 1590 - one thousand five hundred and ninety-two and rebuilt in 1893 - 1905. Located in the former ghetto 's Jewish Town, Josefov , it contains the first part of an exhibition on the history of Jews in Bohemia and Moravia (earliest settlement, the beginnings of emancipation).
Summary |
The Maisel Synagogue was built between 1590 and 1592 by the Mayor of the Jewish Quarter, Mordechai Maisel , who funded the extensive reconstruction of the ghetto during the Renaissance. The builders of this synagogue were Josef Wahl and Juda Goldsmied Herz.
In 1689 , the original building was seriously damaged in a fire and was later renovated in the style of Baroque.
Later, it was considerably rebuilt in a style neo-Gothic by Professor A. Grott in 1893 - 1905. All that remained intact was the original Renaissance route map tripartite central hall with the top tier of women.
Exhibition
The first part of an exhibition on the history of Jews in Bohemia and Moravia since the earliest settlement to the beginnings of emancipation is being held in the Synagogue Maisel, at the initiative of the Jewish Museum.
