Machyakhat Al Akl


The Machyakhat al Akl has become an institution whose role is paramount in Lebanon. It has considerable revenue. They come from two sources: the leasing of real estate and leasing arable properties in Beirut. The Machyakhat al Akl and all the sheikhs insiders responsible Khalwat and shrines are a kind of very powerful religious order, beyond the control of politicians: the Druze insiders, it is them.

It is the responsibility to rebuild the list of Druze sheikhs akl, provided that the documentation allows. Besides its historical interest, this list includes a significant aspect anecdotal because many sheikhs have left comments still waiting for their manuscripts Orientalists and their publishers in particular the family of Sheikhs Hamadeh who own one of the richest cultural heritages and religious Druze community of Lebanon.

  1. The Emir Issa Tannoukhi
  2. The Emir Issa II (early fifteenth century), famous for his calligraphy.
  3. The Emir of Saif al-Din Tannoukhi (1387-1459), poet and jeweler.
  4. The Emir of As-Sayyed Jamal al-Din Abdullah Tannoukhi (1417-1479,) was born in Abay where a shrine was erected in his honor.

He practiced the mystical way of the Sufis. The Emir is considered the largest medieval personality of Unitarianism. Two of his disciples wrote his biography: The sheikhs Mer'i Abu Ali Hamadeh and Achrafani. The emir deserves a monograph of its own. His comments depart significantly from the contemporary Ismaili line and it would be useful to make a comparison between the two currents.

  1. Sheikh Abu Ali Mir'i Hamadeh Fasaqine is buried in the lower Chouf.
  2. Sheikh Zaid d-Din Abd l-d-Din Jaffar Taqiy: Was born in Kfar Matta Baakline and died in 1557.
  3. Sheikh Muhammad Abu Hilal: known as the Sheikh Fadil al (1579-1640)
  4. Sheikh Achrafani born near Damascus and says "al Umdat Arifin," Gnosis fundamental "a copy of which was preserved at the American University of Beirut.
  5. Sheikh Sa'id Youssef Kfarqouni ( XVIII century )
  6. Sheikh Abu Muhammad Nasir al-Din of ( XVIII century )
  7. Sheikh Abu Ali Nasif Abu Shaqra ( XVIII century )

After 1825, al Machyakhat Akl split into two parts following the two dominant political trends: Jumblatt and Hamadeh or "Yazbak.

Sheiks Yazbak Akl:

  1. Sheikh Hussein 'Abd ssamad of' Amatour, inducted in 1825.
  2. Sheikh Muhammad Hamadeh of Baakline, inducted in 1868.
  3. Hussein Sheikh Hamad Baakline, inducted in 1915.
  4. Sheikh Rashid Hamad Baakline inducted Sept. 16, 1956. It is the latest trend Sheikh Yazbak. died April 13, 1971.

His son Sheikh Farid Hamadeh Lebanese patriot who has been a major player in the protection of Christians in the Chouf, surrounded and partly slaughtered by the men of the Progressive Party ( SPP ) in 1983 during the War of the Mountain.

The remains of the sheikhs Akl was blown up and the attack claimed by Jumblatt's men during the "war of the mountain" because of patriotic positions Farid Hamadeh and because of its alliance with the Christians of Chouf.
