At the Second Vatican Council , for the first time, a number of non-Catholic observers were allowed to attend the hearings. Here are their names:

Edmund Schlink (1903-1984), delegate of the Evangelical Church (that is to say Protestant Lutheran) of Germany. Is a professor of systematic theology at the University of Heidelberg. He is Director of the Research Institute of Ecumenical he founded this university, and participates in the Department of Faith and the World Council of Churches founded in 1947.
The Canon Bernard Pawley , an Anglican from Ely Cathedral in Britain , a delegate from the Anglican Communion. The second observer is the Bishop of Ripon, England , John Moorman.
The Russian Church Outside Russia (Orthodox not rallied to Moscow ) assigns two observers: Monsignor Anthony Bartasevic , bishop of Geneva and the Archpriest Igor Troyanof , rector of churches in Lausanne and Vevey.
Canon Peter J. Maan , observer for the Old Catholic Church , a professor of Scripture at the seminary of Amersfoort. It will become in 1964 , rector of the Old Catholic Cathedral of Utrecht.
