List Of Catholic Saints

The Catholic Church recognizes a number of individuals quality of saints. Related also saints who, like most of Breton saints , have not received the official recognition of Rome , but the bishops have the privilege of honoring their own saints (they are then strictly speaking of the blessed and not saints).

Found in what is called the Proper of the diocese "or" Own a religious congregation, "a list of saints recognized by Rome or not, universal or local, with a biography and date of death that is, in principle, that of their party, the whole forming a schedule. These saints are celebrated with a varying degree of obligation and solemnity by the diocese or religious order: fun, memory, or optional memory and sometimes solemn.

Following the Second Vatican Council , many saints have disappeared from the general schedule, leaving room for the celebration of the ordinary public holiday, and degrees of celebration are simplified. The Orthodox churches give the saint as fewer people.

In certain regions or countries, the use was to give a child the name of the saint celebrated his birthday or the name of the festival scheduled. This gave some surprising names like Jean-Bedel, for St. John Baptist de la Salle (denoted by abbreviation of John B. l.), celebrated on April 7 , or Fetnat (short for National Day), celebrated on July 14.

There is a feast of all saints, known as Toussaint takes place on 1 November. It is celebrated throughout the Church since the ninth century and should not be confused with the Commemoration of the faithful departed is celebrated on November 2, which is dedicated to all the faithful deceased.
