List Of Bishops Of Strasbourg

The bishops of Strasbourg are princes of the Empire, they occupy the place called "St. Arbogast". Strasbourg , until simple bishopric was elevated to an archdiocese in October 1988 during the visit of Pope John Paul II. The Archbishop of Strasbourg has the distinction of being one of only two Catholic bishops in the world not to be formally appointed by the Pope , but by a temporal power, namely the President of the French Republic (the other being the bishop of Metz, cf. Concordat in Alsace-Moselle for details).
