List Of Arab Surnames

Main article: Arabic Lexicography.

The names and surnames Arab're meaningful. Unlike the Romance languages, there are no distinctions between Arabic nouns and proper names; a first and last name are Arabic words without special categorization.

In case of ambiguity, the interpretation of an Arabic name is in the sense most rewarding. We note such as "tenacity" or "resistance to adversity" instead of "aggression." Across the West, such a configuration is found in names such as Alexander the Great, Richard the Lion Heart, etc.. The Arabic name is exactly the same kind, be it ancient or modern Arabic.

Understanding of a name in Arabic implies some knowledge of the language.

The Arabic name is built on a root , a word abstract written with consonants. This radical then varies more or less under different names to feel close without the intelligibility of the original radical being affected. Understanding of a name depends heavily on the Arabic script, the Latin transliterations can lead to errors of interpretation.

The Arabic language has 28 letters (three semi-vowels), which are in fact 28 consonants. The transliteration of an Arabic name in any Latin language is therefore often approximated. For example, the "t" French is used to represent three different Arabic letters.

You should know also that there are many Arabic dialects in addition to Modern Standard Arabic (MSA, Modern Standard Arabic acronym). The meaning of certain names and surnames may vary between regions and different populations derived from different ancient tribes (the latter is probably the one that makes it harder to determine the meaning of certain names).

The Arabic name known, even today, a phenomenon similar to that of particle names of the nobility of the Ancien Regime in France or in other languages, and frequently gives indications on the descent. We also find additions corresponding to additional, real additions to the grammatical meaning of the term. The phenomenon of "particles" refers to the surname, while the phenomenon of complement applies equally to first names as last names Notes
