Lgalisme

In a strict sense, legalism is the doctrine that demands respect literal texts of law to the detriment of his mind.

In a broad sense, this means more prosaic concern for law enforcement.

Religion

Many religions have adopted systems of often complex laws, which were taxed by their legalistic opponents or dissidents. Jewish law or halakha contains 613 commandments systematized by the school Yabneh. Assumed to be Jewish to practice the 613 commandments. The Talmud explains a lot of case studies that constitute a body of jurisprudence. In the New Testament , the writers of the Gospels present a Jesus who condemned the legalism of the Pharisees. Jesus does not pretend to abolish the Jewish law but to fulfill it, perfect it with the commandment of love. At the beginning of the Protestant Reformation , Martin Luther criticized the Catholic Church as an institution with the legalistic Pharisees, dogmatic, anti-biblical and anti-Christian.

The Sharia is a complete system of law that regulates the daily life of all Muslims.

Philosophy

Legalism is not incompatible with critical thinking: the legalistic think there is a time to criticize and a time to accept the result, he likes it or not. At the extreme, a legalist may even commit illegal actions, but he will not complain (officially or unofficially) if caught. Dura lex sed lex well defined legalistic thinking.

The meaning of the term limits today, however, insofar as, in law , the laws are at a level lower than the constitution and the bloc of conventionality ( organic laws , international treaties, EU directives) in the hierarchy of Legal.
