Leontius Ii
Leonce He was the favorite of Justinian II. He took his place on the throne in 695 but was defeated by Tiberius III in 698. When Justinian came to the throne in 705 , he had him murdered in the prison where he was.
Originally from Isauria , Leonce illustrated as general of the Byzantine Army. Named strategist of the theme of Anatolia by Constantine IV , he was sent by Justinian II in Georgia and Armenia to push the Arabs in 686. Its military successes, often characterized by the use of cruel tactics, have contributed to the renewal by the caliph Abd al-Malik treaty favorable to Byzantium.
He was jailed by Justinian II in 693 after a defeat. On his release, he will overthrow Justinian II exiled it to Chersonesos. During his reign unpopular, Leonce lose Carthage in 697 , which will cause his downfall in the Byzantine patrician, who will replace him by Tiberius III in 698.
