Kerygma

The kerygma (from the ancient Greek / "proclaimed aloud," to / "the Herald") means in the religious vocabulary Christian , the first statement of faith, profession of faith of the first fundamental Christians. It consists of three key statements:

  • Jesus Christ is the Messiah , the son of God;
  • he is risen, and the speaker bears witness personally;
  • call to conversion.

In the New Testament kerygma contained the first of Peter , the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:22-24 then 32 and 38):

"Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs which God did through him among you, as you yourselves know, having been delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God - he, you nailed to a cross and you did perish by the hand of wicked men, whom God raised, having loosed the pains of death, since it was not possible that he should be holden of it. (...) This Jesus God raised up, what we are, we are all witnesses. (...) Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. "

The kerygma of Paul , shorter, more emphasis on the resurrection, is contained in the first epistle to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 15:1-8):

"Now I give you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, that you also received, and where you are, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and was buried; and was resurrected on the third day according to the scriptures, and he was seen of Cephas [Peter], then twelve. Then he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once, most of which remained alive until now, but some also have fallen asleep. Then he was seen by Jacques, then all the apostles, and after all, like a runt, he was seen of me also. "

It is also the title of two epistles apocryphal : the Kerygma of Peter, Paul and Kerygma.

Later, towards the development of heresies , will be developed in the kerygma of faith , including more dogmatic statements. The two main ones are:

The quotations of the New Testament are from the translation of John Nelson Darby.
