Jude (Gospels)

Jude () is listed among the brothers ("Brother" or "cousin", ) from Jesus of Nazareth in the Gospels of Matthew (Mt 13:55) and Mark (Mark 6.3).

It is sometimes identified with the Apostle Jude Thaddeus , and the author of the Epistle of Jude , one of the Catholic Epistles of the New Testament , which the author said "Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ, brother of Jacques' (v Ju 1) (perhaps Jacques le Juste , another brother of Jesus).

His descendants are mentioned in two passages of the Ecclesiastical History of Eusebius of Caesarea:

  • ET 3, 19 and 20
"The same Domitian ordered the destruction of all Jews who were the offspring of David, an ancient tradition says that heretics denounced the descendants of Jude, who was, according to the flesh, brother of the Savior, as belonging to the race of David and Parents of Christ himself. This is shown Hegesippus when he said the following:
"There was still a race of small-Sauveur son of Jude who was himself called his brother after the flesh: it denounced them as descendants of David. evocatus led them to the Domitian; it feared the coming of Christ, as Herod. The emperor asked them if they were the offspring of David, they confessed, and he then inquired of their property and their wealth: they said they had all one and the other nine thousand deniers, which each had half, they added that they did not have this amount of money, but it was the assessment of land of thirty-nine plethra, for which they paid taxes and that 'They grew to live.
Then they showed their hands and, as proof that they work themselves, they alleged harshness of their members, and callouses embedded in their own hands, a sure sign of ongoing work. When asked about Christ and his kingdom, the nature of his kingship, the place and time of its appearance, they made this answer, that the reign of Christ was neither the world nor of the earth, but heavenly angelic, it would come true in the end times when Christ coming in glory finds the living and the dead and make each according to his works. Domitian saw nothing there that was against them, he disdained as simple people, sent them free and put an end to an edict of persecution against the church. Once issued, they directed the churches, both as parents and martyrs of the Lord, and lived after the peace until the time of Trajan. "
  • ET 3, 32
"The same author (Hegesippus) tells us again that other descendants of Jude, one of those people said the Lord's brothers, lived until the time of the reign of Trajan, after having, under Domitian, testified to the Christian faith as we have already noted. Here's what we told this writer:
"They will therefore serve as guides to each church as martyrs and relatives of the Lord. Thanks to the profound peace which the whole church then enjoyed, they live up to Trajan. ""
