Journal Of Jewish Studies

The Journal of Jewish Studies (or is a quarterly based French to Paris in July 1880 by the Society of Jewish Studies. Originally it was published under the direction of Isidore Loeb , and after his death (June 3, 1892), as that of Israel Levi. This publication is a continuation of the Wissenschaft des Judentums.

The YEN is organized into volumes, two of which contain the records of the year. Each of these volumes consists of two numbers. As the Jewish Quarterly Review , is devoted to scientific research and publication of new texts on Judaism , among other documents relating to the history of the Jewish people. Almost all the numbers also contain a special reference section devoted to the review of current research on Jewish culture. The contributors are of various nationalities and belonging to different universities or research institutes, such as CNRS.

The editor of YEN also publishes individual works in the "collection of the Journal of Jewish Studies History

Among the leading contributors can be mentioned: Wilhelm Bacher , Arsene and Darmesteter James , Joseph and Hartwig Derenbourg , Joseph Halevy , Israel Levi , Isidore Loeb , Zadok Kahn , Kayserling Meyer , David Kaufmann , Nathan Porges , Samuel Poznanski , Moses Schwab , Isaac Broyd , Abraham Epstein and Maurice Liber. The most prolific of these was Isidore Loeb himself, who, in addition to literature review, this periodical has enriched many texts to diverse content. Of great interest is a series of articles by Joseph Derenbourg on biblical studies and a series of rabbinical literature, whose glosses of Abu Zakariya ibn Bal'am on Isaiah (Arabic text with French translation). On no less interest are the "Biblical Research" by Joseph Halevy, a series on biblical archeology also contains the texts Assyrian correspondence between the leaders of Eastern and Egyptian kings Amenhotep III and Amenhotep IV ( Akhenaten ). Among the items Israel Levi special mention should be made for those that deal with Jewish legends found in the literature Talmudic , with references to non-Jewish sources. Finally Moses Schwab has published a large number of Hebrew inscriptions and documents relating to the history of French Jews.

The review was conducted after Israel Levi by Maurice Liber , Julien Weill , Georges Vajda , Grard Nahon , Charles Touati and Gilbert Dahan. It is currently headed by Simon Claude Mimouni and Jean-Pierre Rothschild.
