John Wansbrough

John Edward Wansbrough ( 19 February 1928 - 10 June 2002 ) was a historian American who has taught at the University of London 's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) Biography

Youth

Born in Peoria in the Illinois , he studied at the Harvard University , and spent the rest of the SOAS academic career.

Research on Islam

It caused a shock in the 1970s when his research on early Islamic manuscripts, which included analysis of the repeated use of imaging monotheistic Judeo-Christian found in the Koran , led him to advance Islam was born of a mutation in what was originally a Judeo-Christian sect that tried to spread into the territories Arab rather than a simple cultural diffusion. Undergoing an evolution over time, the Judeo-Christian scriptures have adapted to an Arab perspective and turned into what became the Koran, which has developed over the centuries thanks to contributions from various sources tribal Arab. The search for Wansbrough suggests that much of the traditional history of Islam seems to have been manufactured several generations later, to seek to build and support a single religious identity. He died in Montaigu de Quercy , in France.
