John Sununu
John Henry Sununu, born July 2 1939 at Havana in Cuba , was Governor of New Hampshire between 1983 and 1989, and Chief of Staff of the White House during the first part of the mandate of President George HW Bush. He comes from a Lebanese-Palestinian family and Catholicism. He holds a Bachelor of Science, a Masters and PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is the brotherhood (in English fraternity) of Phi Sigma Kappa.
Biography
Sununu was the 85th governor of New Hampshire January 6, 1983, and has been for three consecutive terms. He was president of the Coalition of Northeastern Governors, the Republican Governors Association (RGA) and in 1987, the National Governors Association (NGA).
He was the first chief of staff to George HW Bush at the White House from 1989 to 1991. Sununu was known for his leadership and his toughness. He has made many enemies inside and outside the White House and the Republican Party.
He led the discussions of the issue on Crossfire CNN from March 1992 to February 1998.
Sununu currently lives in Salem in New Hampshire. He is the president's own company, JHS Associates, Ltd.. And it is associated in the private financial company Trinity International Partners.
His son John Edward Sununu was Republican Senator from New Hampshire from 2003 to 2009. He was beaten by a former State Governor, Democrat Jeanne Shaheen , the elections of November 4, 2008.
Controversy
In 1975, Sununu raised controversy because he was the only governor not to call for the repeal of Resolution 3379 of the General Assembly of the United Nations on "Zionism and racism." He left the Bush administration after being accused of abusing government flights. He also recommended to President Bush to appoint David Souter to the Supreme Court of the United States.
