Born in 1625 into a patrician family of Dordrecht , it is the most important representative of the bourgeoisie in the Dutch Government of the Republic of United Provinces , in fact he runs for 20 years.

Johan de Witt studied law at the University of Leyden. Surveyor in his spare time, he published Elementa curvarum linearum Literature
