Jewish Antiquities
The Antiquities of the Jews or in Latin ) is a work of the late first century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus. It comprises twenty books written in Greek. It was intended for a readership Greco-Roman to let him know the history of the Jewish people.
The work is especially interesting because it relates events near the time of its composition. She could have gone to the composition of Josippon , chronicle of Jewish history popular. It owes much of its fame to a passage known as the Testimonium Flavianum , evoking Jesus of Nazareth.
A passage confirms the tragic fate of John the Baptist, who was arrested after the Gospels and beheaded by order of King Herod Antipas. The text of Flavius Josephus, although he differs on the cause of murder, returns fairly well the context of John's life.
