Jean Marcel Honor, born in Saint-Brice-en-Cogls on 13 August 1920 , is a cardinal French, Archbishop Emeritus of Tours since 1997.
Summary |
Priest
He holds a doctorate in theology obtained at the Catholic Institute of Paris , he was ordained priest on 29 June 1943 for the Archdiocese of Rennes.
He taught in colleges of Rennes and Saint Malo and the general seminar.
He then spent six years at the National Centre for Religious Education (NRAC) before becoming rector of the Catholic University of Angers. He specializes in the work of John Henry Newman , whom he has written a biography.
Bishop
Appointed bishop of Evreux on 24 October 1972 , he was consecrated on 17 December by Cardinal Paul Gouyon.
On 13 August 1981 he was appointed archbishop of Tours , he has assumed charge until 22 July 1997 , when he retired because of his age.
Cardinal
He was created cardinal , no voter, by John Paul II in the consistory of 27 February 2001 with the title of Cardinal Priest of S. Maria della Salute Primavalle. It is present in the conclave of April 2005, which saw the election of Pope Benedict XVI , but there is not an elector, having passed the age limit.
