Jean Claude Waquet
Jean-Claude Waquet is a historian French.
Biography
Archivists , Jean-Claude Waquet devoted his thesis to the School of charters to the great masters of Waters and Forests in the eighteenth century (1976).
On leaving school, he was appointed a member of the French School of Rome (1976-1979), where he began his research on the finances of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany in the eighteenth century. His early work includes the creation of a farm taxes to the arrival of the new Grand Duke of Tuscany, former duke of Lorraine in 1737. The evolution of his investigation leads him to focus less on grand dukes Habsburg-Lorraine as the last rulers of the house of Medici, Cosimo III and Jean-Gaston. The publication of his work in 1990 raised a heated debate in Italy, especially with historians and Furio Diaz Giuseppe Pansini.
Archivist in the Archives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, he was seconded for two years at CNRS.
It is then a cultural attach at the Embassy of France in Italy (1987-1990). Become a university professor in 1991, he taught modern history at the University of Strasbourg and at the University of Paris XII -Val de Marne. He is now director of studies at the 4th section of the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (history of Europe from the sixteenth to eighteenth century) and president of this school since 2006.
Historian of modern Italy, it is now interested in the history of diplomacy.
Jean-Claude Waquet since 2009 is president of the foundation of Sydney that the pilot project of Campus Condorcet ( SHS d'Aubervilliers ), which combines NEAR Hesam.
