Jaroslav Pelikan January (born 17 December 1923 at Akron in the Ohio and died on 13 May 2006 ), professor of history at Yale University ( 1962 - 1996 ). One of the biggest specialists in the history of Christianity. He is the author of a monumental work.

He was born on 17 December 1923 at Akron in the Ohio , father Slovak mother and a Serb. His father was a pastor Lutheran and his paternal grandfather, a bishop of the Slovak Lutheran Church. He was himself a Lutheran majority of his life, and was ordained pastor, but converted with his wife Sylvia, to the Orthodox Church on 25 March 1998. He was received into Orthodoxy in the chapel of St. Vladimir. The family members claimed that Pelikan remember not having converted to Orthodoxy, but rather that he was "back to her, peeling the layers of my own faith to reveal that she had always been there " Works
