Jafar Ibn Abi Talib

Ja'far ibn Abi Talib ( Arabic : / ), also known under the name of Ja'far Tayyar did (Jafar flying man) was a companion of the Prophet of Islam Mohammed. He was the son of Abu Talib ibn Abd al-Muttalib (uncle of one of the Prophet) and the elder brother of Ali ibn Abi Talib , the fourth caliph.

Biography

Jafar was raised by his uncle Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib because his father was poor and was already involved in a large family. There was a great resemblance between Jafar and Muhammad, both in appearance and in ethics. Muhammad called him "the father of poverty" because he spent all that money was to help the poor.

Jafar left the house of his uncle Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib when he became a young man and married Asma bint Umay 's daughter Umay ibn Ma'ad and sister of Muawiya. They were among the first to embrace the Islam following the company Abu Bakr as-Siddiq. They suffered greatly because of the hands of Quraysh , who persecuted them until they could no longer bear it. Despite their patience and persistence, they were therefore forced to go to Muhammad and ask him for permission to emigrate to Abyssinia , now Ethiopia, they and a small group of sahaba.

They settled in this new land under the protection of the Negus Asham bin Abjar. They regained their freedom they had lost since they became Muslims and were able for the first time to devote to worship Allah without any hindrance. However, the Quraysh would not let them enjoy this freedom for long. They sent Abd Allah ibn Abi Rabiah , Amr ibn al-As and other men of Quraysh with orders to negotiate with the Negus and bring all Muslims to Mecca.

They took a lot of presents of great value to the Negus and this pleased him very much. Then they told him he had a bad group of men who were free to move about freely in his country and asked him to catch them before they cause some damage to his kingdom, as they did so-called with Quraysh. But the Negus refused to do this before asking about the allegations. He asked the group of Muslims, among them was Jafar, come to be questioned and the Muslims chose to be their spokesman.

The Negus asked them:

"What is this religion that you decided to cut ties with your people? and you do not kiss or our religion or any other. "

Ja'far replied by saying:

"O King, we were a people living in ignorance and immorality, worshiping idols and eating the flesh of dead animals, committing all sorts of atrocities and shameful practices, breaking the bonds of kinship, the missing rules of hospitality, the largest operator of us the lowest ... We remained in that state until the day when Allah, Exalted be He, sent us a prophet of our people whose lineage, truthfulness, respect and integrity of the deposit was known to us all. He called us to worship Allah , the One and to abjure the stones and idols we and our ancestors used to worship themselves, besides Allah. We were admonished to tell the truth, to honor our word, to be kind to our relatives, to help our neighbors, to cease any illegal acts, to abstain from bloodshed, to avoid indecency and perjury, not to appropriate the property of orphans or slandering virtuous women. He ordered us to worship Allah, Exalted be He, alone, with nothing to associate, to perform the Salat (prayer), to pay the Zakat (alms tax) and the fasting month of Ramadan. We believed in him and the message of Allah, Exalted be He, he gave us, we see everything he asks us to do, and reject what he has forbidden us to commit. Following this, O King, our people attacked us and inflicted the most severe punishment to make us renounce our religion and take us back to the old immoral practices and the worship of idols. They have oppressed us and made our life impossible, and prevented us to apply our religion. Then we came to your country and that we have chosen among many others, the desire to win your protection and in the hope to live in justice and peace among you. "

The Negus was interested in learning more about what Jafar had said and asked him to read some of what the prophet Muhammad reports about Allah. Ja'far recited the first part of Surah Maryam , which tells the story of Jesus and his mother Mary. Hearing the words of the Quran, the Negus was so moved that he wept, as the bishops who were around him.

The Negus then said to them:

"The message of your Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and Jesus, peace and blessings be upon him, have a single source. "

Then he said to `Amr and his companions:

"Go, because by God, I do the books ever."

But the story does not stop there. Amr decided to resort to trickery and go to the king, "he mentioned a detail about the belief of Muslims that it certainly will fill his heart with anger and hatred."

The following day, Amr went to the King and said:

"O King, these people you have granted asylum and that you protect say terrible things about Jesus the son of Mary. It would be a slave ... So send them up, and ask them what words they speak of Jesus. "

The Negus summoned the Muslims once again, Jafar as their spokesman. The Negus asked this question:

"What do you say to Jesus, son of Mary? "

Jafar said:

"In his case, we say that what has been revealed to our Prophet." Jafar said. And what is it? "He asked. Our Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said Jesus is the slave of God and His Prophet. His Spirit and His Word which He has infused the Virgin Mary. Jafar said. "

The Negus was obviously dazzled by this reply and exclaimed:

"By God, Jesus son of Mary was exactly as described by your Prophet."

The bishops could only mutter their disgust and did reprimanded by the Negus. He turned to the Muslims and said:

"Go in peace. Anyone who torment you, and will pay anyone will oppose you will be punished. For by God, I'd give up a mountain of gold than it hurts one of you. "

Involving `Amr and his companions, he summoned his stewards of their gifts make them because he did not need. Amr and his companions retired, miserable and rude. Muslims remained on the land of the Negus who proved to be extremely generous and kind to his proteges. Asma Jafar and his wife spent ten years in Abyssinia which became their second home. Asma gave birth to three children whom they named Abd Allah, Muhammad and Awn. Their second child was probably the first child in the history of the Muslim community to be called Mohammed, named after the prophet of Islam.
