Jacob Ben Asher
Rabbi Yaakov Ben Asher ( 1270 , Germany - 1340 ) is a rabbinic decision legislator and Jewish , he is called by the Baal HaTourim of his work.
Son of Rabbi Asher ben Yehiel , the Rosh, with whom he studied. He was born in Germany and in 1303 he accompanied his father to Toledo where he lived in extreme poverty and devoted her life to the Torah.
The fame of Rabbi Yaakov is based on its consolidated halakhic encyclopedia, Arbaa Turim , which preceded the Shulchan Aruch , and according to which Rabbi Yaakov was named Baal HaTourim. Its layout and rich content make it a standard work, in Halacha , which was widely circulated in the Jewish world. He was so universally accepted that when Rabbi Yosef Karo wrote his major work, Beth Yosef, he decided to base it on the Turim, "because it contains most of the opinions of decision makers."
Rabbi Yaakov also wrote a long commentary on Chumash , making a statement of literal explanations ( Peshat ) earlier commentators. At the beginning of each section, he added "as an aperitif, gematriot and explanations of Massor to stimulate the reader's mind. " Paradoxically, the whole work was printed only twice and it is precisely the "appetizers" that are published become popular in most editions of the Bible under the name "Baal HaTourim.
Among his students include Rabbi David Aboudraham.
According haGuedolim Shem, Rabbi Yaakov died on the way to the Land of Israel
