Jabir Ibn Abdullah Al Ansari
Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari ( 606 - 697 ) Biography Jabir ibn Abd-Allah was born in Medina 15 years before the Hijrah. It was part of a poor family of Yathrib ( Madinah ) and belonged to the tribute of Banu Khazraj. Her mother was Nasiba bint ibn Uqba Uddi Abdullah and his father was married to his paternal cousin. Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari married the Islam while still a young boy. His participation in the Battle of Badr is disputed by some historians, but it is known to have fought in 19 fights (including Badr) under the command of Muhammad and was a Sahaba of confidence. He was also present during the conquest of Mecca. In the battle of Uhud , Jabir has not been authorized by his father to take part in Jihad. Jabir had seven sisters (some historians say nine) and his father wanted him to take care of his family. So instead of fighting, the soldiers served Jabir thirsty. Abdullah (the father of Jabir) was killed during the Battle of Uhud with his brother, Amr ibn Jamu, both having almost 100 years old each. According to Shiite tradition, he refused to swear allegiance to Abu Bakr . Later, he was threatened with stoning by Omar if he was seen practicing Mut'a Nikah (Temporary marriage). Shiites scholars believe that this was the first time it was prohibited while the Sunni scholars say Omar has simply carried out a previous ban coming directly from Muhammad. He fought at the battle of the camel , of Siffin and Nahrawan (in) under the command of ' Ali ibn Abi Talib. Because of his advanced age, Jabir was unable to participate in the battle of Karbala (October 10 680) when the little son of Muhammad, Husayn ibn Ali , was killed. It was during this period that Jabir said a further statement of Omar prohibiting temporary marriage. Jabir had a long life but he was poisoned by al-Hajjaj bin Yusef See also Childhood
