Israel Finkelstein is an archaeologist Israel , director of the Institute of Archaeology of Tel Aviv University and co-head of excavations at Megiddo (25 archaeological strata, 7000 years of history).

/ / Biography

He is a contribution to recent archaeological data on early Israelites in the land of Palestine (excavations of 1990 ). It is a statistical method (surface exploration to large-scale survey of all traces of life, then dating and mapping dates) which led to the discovery of the first settlement of Jews in the highlands of the West Bank. According to him, habitats oval uncovered evoke camps Bedouin. The theory of the ethnogenesis of Israel by settling of nomadic pastoralists, however, was challenged by William G. Dever example.

Place of Israel Finkelstein in the scientific community

Recent contributions to professional dating by carbon-14 were collected in a book: T. Levy and T. Higham, Editors, Radiocarbon Dating and the Iron Age of the Southern Levant: The Bible and Archaeology Today , London, 2005 (27 contributions, 448 pages).

In this peer-reviewed publication, we find the contribution of the whole scientific community working in Archaeology on the subject of the Bible. The book provides an update on the issue. Reading the table of contents clearly shows that Israel Finkelstein is acknowledged within this community and there is a very important place (three contributions accepted by the committee).
