Israeli New Historians

The Israeli New Historians are basically a group of 5 researchers (essayists, journalists and historians) who reviewed the history of the birth of the State of Israel : Simha Flapan , Benny Morris , Tom Segev , Ilan Pappe and Avi Shlaim . The "New Historians" have questioned several elements central to the historiography of Israeli traditional, such as Arab intentions in the war , the relations between the Zionist movement and Transjordan , the balance of power between the protagonists , the causes of the Palestinian exodus of 1948 , the role played by the British who controlled Palestine at the time and the responsibilities of the failed negotiations that followed the armistice .

Their findings have aroused strong opposition in the traditional Israeli academic and policy debate and controversy , . Disagreements have also arisen between them since 2004 .

Following their lead, other researchers such as Baruch Kimmerling , Idith Zertal , Shlomo Sand , Uri Ram and Hillel Cohen have broadened the study to the entire Zionist historiography and to Israeli society .

The "New Historians" fall into the stream of thought post-Zionism that has emerged in the early 70s Israel .
