Isaac Ben Jacob Alfasi
Yitshak ben Yaakov Hacohen Alfasi ( in 1013 - 1103 ), also called R f (", acronym R ave I Tshaka Al asi F), was a rabbi medieval , decision halakhic , a native of Fez , in Morocco.
His great work, Sefer HaHalakhot ( ) is considered the first major work of literature halakhic. His code, compilation of the Babylonian Talmud , is one of the "Three Pillars of Halakha," which are based on the Arbaa Turim (the Four Columns ") and the Shulchan Aruch.
Biography
Rabbi Yitzhak Alfasi was born in Kalat ibn Hamad, a village near Fez in Morocco in 1013. He gets to Kairouan , Tunisia 's teachings Nissim Ben Jacob and Ben Hananel Houshiel (Rabbenou Hananel), the greatest rabbinical authorities of the time. He was, so to speak, sponsored by the Jewish community of Fez, which also supported himself with his family while he was working on the Sefer Ha-halachot. A yeshiva was also founded in his honor, and attracted many students from all over Morocco. In 1088 , he was denounced by two informants for the government to one count of undefined. He is forced to migrate to the Spain , where he became head of the yeshiva in Lucena in 1089. It will be among his most brilliant pupils Rabbi Judah Halevi.
Rav Hai Gaon died while the Rif was 25. It is generally believed that he made the transition from the era of Geonim and that of the Rishonim , some recital itself as Gaon.
Works
Sefer Ha-halachot extract all the legal decisions contained in treaties Talmudic and and and The Rif transcribed conclusions without halachic deliberations relating thereto, and excluding material aggadic.
This book has been surpassed in importance by the commentary of Rashi , which it predates. He made the gemara to the general public, and it is not surprising that the Talmud is called Katan ("Little Talmud") is also known under the name of "Hilchot Harif. Rav Nissim Gerondi (RAN) has prepared a detailed commentary, included in most current editions. The Rif and Ran are part of the daily curriculum of yeshivas.
