Overview History
Chemical Institute of Rouen
During the First World War , the dependence with Germany in the field of chemistry is felt to a greater extent. This context gives reason to the Industrial Company of Rouen , who preached from 1855 to the creation of a training of chemists in Rouen. Accordingly, in 1917 was founded the Institute of Chemical Rouen (ICR), a private school of engineering situated Avenue de Caen , .
Higher National Institute of Industrial Chemistry Rouen
In 1959 was created the Higher National Institute of Industrial Chemistry Rouen - INSCIR, based on the Institute of Chemistry of Rouen. In 1961, the Institute occupies and moves to new premises in Mont-Saint-Aignan.
INSA Rouen

- 1985: INSCIR and closure of the establishment of the INSA of Rouen, a member of NHI ;
- 1987: Opening of Fine Chemistry and Engineering Department (IFC);
- 1989: Opening of Mathematical Departments (GM) and Energy and Propulsion (EP);
- 1995: Opening of the department Mechanical (MECHANICAL);
- 1999: Opening of Architecture Department of Information Systems (ASI) and opening of the Bilingual International Section (SIB) in the undergraduate training;
- 2004: Opening of an option in the Department CFI: Master of Industrial Risks and Environmental Impacts
- January 2005: Certification ISO 9001 : 2000 Activity integration projects collective ASI department. It is the first educational activity of type "project" certified ISO 9001:2000 in the curriculum of a French engineering school.
- 2008: Opening of two new departments: Civil Engineering and Sustainable Buildings (GCCD) in an antenna located in Havre and Control of Industrial Risks and Environmental Impacts (MRIE).
- September 2009: consolidation of the NHI on the site of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray , in the Technopole Madrillet , with the exception of the antenna of Le Havre.
Organization
INSA-Rouen status EPSCP and will belong to future NEAR Normandie University. A privileged partnership is also in force with the Ensicaen leading to a merger late 2011 to give birth to the NHI Normandy .
Training
Engineers
INSA Rouen offers a number of engineering programs accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research after the opinion of the Securities Commission engineering .
First round: STPI
The school takes five years for which student engineers have scientific, communication and management. The courses, sometimes in partnership with the company, the guide gradually towards its future business (reports, projects, presentations, International ...).
The first two years are the "junior" department or STPI (Science and Technical Engineering), this cycle can impart knowledge to the general assembly of the promotion and help her choose her future department specialty. Indeed, the fourth semester (second part of the second year) offers a variety of materials (UV) free to begin specialization.
Gateways are available from the NHI during the first and second year.
Special Sections
SIB - Bilingual International Section
Section SIB welcomes foreign engineering students at a rate of half of its workforce. Many nationalities are represented, as shown in this list: Vietnam , China , Malaysia , Japan , Romania , United Kingdom , Senegal , El Salvador , Mexico , Bulgaria , Brazil , Greece , Moldova and India.
Half of UV is taught in English by teachers in English or French (Dr Simon Busbridge, professor of physics, an emblematic figure of the section).
This is the highest ratio of courses taught in English throughout the INSA network (unlike the conventional ratio 80% French / 20% English).
The actual SIB 2006 is 31.5% of the 2006 class (100 students out of 320).

Gym INSA Rouen Madrillet.
The NHS, selected for their athletic skills and scientific benefit from an upgrade of their time during their first cycle: two years of undergraduate are well spread over three years to enable them to devote significant time training.
Theme Dies
ETS INSA-Rouen is open to all, you can enroll in the first year of study. It consists of two lessons: the practice and theory.
ETS students have a weekly 3-hour theatrical practice. Programme: improvisation and game pieces (eg, STE Grade 1 plays one-act plays of Anton Chekhov ). Students of ETS made a representation before the other students at INSA of Rouen in 3 rd and 4 th year, even in Grade 2 (Grade 2, the theme of practical courses is "clowns").
The theater department offers education to its students to see performances for free 4 or 5 times a year. The pieces are diverse views, ranging from classic to contemporary theater, to very modern adaptations of classical pieces.
The course called "theoretical" are also 3 hours per week, for ten weeks. Students discuss their impressions of parts views with the group and working on set design (light, sound, scenery ...), imagining stagings possible for various pieces.
Second Round
- Architecture of Information Systems
- Energy and propulsion
- Mechanical
- Chemistry and Processes
- Mathematical genius
- Civil engineering and sustainable construction
- Control of industrial risks and environmental impacts
Internships
The engineering student is required to complete three compulsory courses: the course workers late in the first year (one month), the technician course late in the third year (2 or 3 months), and the internship engineer awarded after five years (6 months).
These courses allow students to become aware of the engineering problems of the people he spearheads.
Thus, when entering the working world, it will already be aware of the overall operation of the business it has largely arrested during the five years.
